    Newbie!

    Hey everyone!!

This is my first post to this forum site. I just recently started hitting the bag about 5-6 weeks ago I would say. A friend taught me a lot because he is really into it and I went and met Alan, which was awesome. I got some one-on-one coaching of how to hit the bag and different combinations I can try. So since then I now how the everlast elite platform, everlast swivel, and Title gyro small bag setup in my basement. I love hitting the bag and can't wait to try new combinations and start hitting to music. I tend to do things that are not popular for females, so I would consider this one of them. haha. If anyone has any suggestions/advice for me, that would be awesome! I am also looking to order my next bag, looking for something a little lighter than what I have now and maybe a little smaller. If anyone has suggestions...

Welcome to your new addiction, speedbag_chic! I'm glad you found your way to the forum. Loads of info. And lots of great baggers are here to encourage you on your journey. And you got to meet Alan? That's awesome. He knows speed bagging, inside and out.

Speaking from my own experience, I found that it was important for me to practice with a larger, heavier speed bag (larger than 8x5). Most importantly, it allowed me to build up my stamina by working the muscles required to keep a speed bag moving.

In addition to building stamina, it was very beneficial for improving and advancing my skills in executing complicated punching combinations. Starting out on a large bag also taught me how to control the bag. It takes time under the board—lots and lots of practice—to become a skilled bagger.

Personally, I find it really rewarding to be able to hit a big bag and would recommend a good bag like a medium or large Cleto Reyes, or a medium Title bag.

I hope this advice is helpful, speedbag_chic. Keep us posted of your progress.

    Bag on!

Welcome to the forum Speedbag_Chic! I have to agree with what Ms. Deville said and I always learn new moves on a larger bag, nice & slow... once you have the control, the speed comes naturally.

I'm guessing you met Alan at SPEEDB.A.G. IV? If not, please don't miss next years gathering, they are a hoot!

      Best,

        Title Bags

Welcome. This is awesome, another addict brought to us by The Master!! I too would have to agree with Title Boxing but I would hit all types of bags. All bags have a different action like people and their personalities. Try them all!!

            Welcome,

As a fairly new newbie myself I have to agree with having a 'larger' bag to use. I rotate bags during practice normally starting with my big boy. At first using the big bag was awkward but after a couple of practices, there was definite improvement overall. Having to hit accurate and with force has improved my skills on the smaller bags. It also helps me work on new skills and combos. Being able to slow down the hits helps to ensure proper techniques.

The bags are very addicting and oh so much fun...

              Overwhelmed =)

Wow! Thanks everyone for responding to my post!! I am going to take everyone's advice for sure. The bag I have now feels pretty heavy and is large, but it's what I used when Alan was teaching me so I obviously had to buy one. I may look for a slightly lighter one just because I love the speed aspect. We will see though, I have been shopping around. I also will be taking videos shortly.. maybe that can make it easier for people to critique my skill and give advice on how to further advance. I also need to learn the terminology for the hits I am doing. When I do my rounds I usually incorporate 4 different types of hits, but I wouldn't know what the official names are. (which is pathetic lol) As for where I met Alan, my friend and I drove to North Jersey for the Speed Bag IV. It was pretty awesome =)

Welcome to the forum! My favorite bags as of now are the Title Black 7x10 and the Title Classic 8x5. I like them so much because of how fast they are. I did swap out the original bladder in each for the orange rubber bladder and that made all the difference. Good luck and looking forward to seeing more from you!

Hello speedbag_chic and welcome to the forum! Thank you for attending the Gathering in New Jersey. I met several people at SB IV and taught on several different bags. We were working on a Large/Heavy speed bag? Sorry I don't remember that incident specifically. I hope you got a picture if you wanted one.

Perhaps you can post a video of your bagging in the near future and we can all help you progress. Keep punching!
