    Swivel Under Construction!

If there is anyone who has tried to make a metal Based Ball Hook Swivel out of any of these other Metal based link and U-Bolt Swivels I Would like any info i can get.

I realize that some of the swivel bases in the photos may be the same, or very similar.

What i would like to know is:

    1. Are there one of these, or some other swivels that require no boring of the Center hole to accommodate the steel ball? ( i doubt a person could be that lucky, but hey... someone may have found an easier way)

    2. Which of these swivels may require the least amount of boring for the Jumpcannon size steel ball to fit properly? (JC's steel ball is pretty much the same size as the original Everlast Plastic Ball)

    3. Are there any of these swivels that will NOT work for making a steel based metal ball hook swivel?

    4. Maybe there is a metal based swivel that will work well for this, that i haven't listed here, If so, what swivel would that be?

I want to have a Click-itty Clank sounding swivel around, with a nice amount of volume, but not too loud. I noticed that they really sound nice in the videos. I really enjoy that sound.

Any Info would be greatly appreciated.

On my board right now, and for the last few months is the Everlast plastic base, with the plastic ball.

But i have Two of the Everlast plastic swivels. The other one (the one in the photo) has the JC steel ball.

Both sets of hooks and eyelets are from the everlast swivels, they fit perfectly with the JC steel ball.

JC did a very smart job to make the steel balls and eyelets that he builds, work smoothly with the everlast parts.

interesting Idea. You must have the tools and know how to do that. not me....(sad)

And the original thread Idea is interesting concept. I have never considered putting a metal (or plastic) ball into the other base housings. Actually I did with the plastic ball and the curve of the ball was too large and stuck out above the housing. this was a standard plastic ball into a standard Everlast Ballhook housing though (pic below). This won't work because the ball above the housing will not allow the housing to lay flat against the board. Perhaps the other swivel housings are deeper and will allow this to work on other models.

Not sure if this helps but i used the 'plastic swivel' hook only to make my own swivel.

The original ball flew out after 20 mins and after a repair of that the plastic base eventually wore rough and was poor.

The 'new' base is an old piece of brass that i had in scrap box ,a polished and hardened ball runs in a PTFE (teflon) bush ....... SILKY SMOOOOTH!

No planning or measuring just quickly made but i did use everlast hole centres.

        Kind Regards

Nooo... it would need cleaning weekly

Where is the metal ball and eyehook from?

The eyehook is the one from the plastic Everlast Unit. The Ball is the head of a prosthetic hip ..... You did ask!

-No need for zerk with PTFE

-Will be many a year before wear becomes an issue ( i think)

-It hangs the same as original, but i plan on recessing it into the board a bit.

                  Cheers

No, you are NOT going mad. It's just all things speed bag getting deeper into your bones.
The condition is not fatal, but can last for many years and many hours under the board.

                          least, that's what I've heard

I know what you mean! I often find myself slowly walking by sidewalk cafe tables. 30" round, perfect for a drum...since taking up bagging, I look at all surfaces differently these days. I fantasize about cutting drums out of all sorts of things.... nothing is safe.
