Who knows the reserve price but $1,750 is not really bad for a platform like this.

I wanted to get that too. It would have to have some autograph's of the Champion boxers who supposedly hit on it before I would have paid that much. Damn 3 G's? I saw a chainlink swiv go for like $50 or something. What is going on?The Speed Ball should be in every hall

We've talked about this before. There is a couple of things occurring in our little corner of the world. One is that their are some sports memorabilia dealers have discovered the interest in boxing items other than signed gloves. Then there are the people that have the assets to drive the prices on these items through the roof. Often after they obtain it ,after a brief period of interest it said item will be a large dust collector, until the decision is made to sell it. I've seen this scenario play out in several different hobbies over the years. The speculators get into it and jack the prices up to astronomical heights until the market for these items dries up, then they move on. The sad thing is that most of the people who bought this stuff at those prices really have little interest in them, other than the bragging rights about how much they paid for it. They will never get their money back out of them in their lifetime. What is scary is we don't know how they or their heirs will dispose of it when the time comes. Usually it's handed over to an auction house, and the process starts all over.

I guess I’m all alone here but $3,000 doesn’t seem all that far-off to me. Don’t get me wrong 3 grand is a lot of money but this is a 320 pound commercial unit. Everlast made one of less quality for $2,300 back in the 70’s or 80’s. Add inflation to that number and you would have over $3,000. Also remember there might be only a handful or two of complete Narragansett units left in existence.
