  • Behold...

Prepare to be dazzled by my mundane skills and basic lack of talent. Hold on to your seats while you desperately try not to fall asleep due to extreme boredom and disappointment. I present to you not only my first speed bag video but my first Youtube video ever. It has been a week of firsts for me, I kinda like it.

This is just a 40 second clip of where I am at. Nothing special, just another day at the gym. I was very much aware I was being filmed and I'm guessing that whole nervous in front of the camera thing will pass on with time.

I welcome any and all critiques, comments and suggestions.

    Woo hoo!

Hey there, Kallidoraknox. You have bedazzled me, for sure! Looking good. Nice linking. Isn't it great when you finally figure out a punching technique on the bag? In a day or two, you'll be doing it without thinking about it. Keep it up. And be sure to post more video as you progress. And, it's great to have another female addict on the forum. Our numbers are growing…

O.K., first off, if there are nerves involved it doesn't show AT ALL. This is ten times better then my first video...really well done, nice form, keeping those elbows up, keen strikes at the belly of the bag. It all looks good to me!

Like Dee says, you will be surprized at how fast you will advance...it just 'clicks' and there you are. Great punching Kalli(now you know why I have a 4 letter screen name)doraknox!

If I was half as good as you on the speed bag I would be happy.

Same here, you looked calm to me...keep up the good work!

You did great for your first vid. At least you didn't get to close to the bag like I did in my first vid and get your nose grazed by the bag (I was to nervous and trying too hard knowing i was in front of the camera) I feel that platform could've been lower for you and the platform was moving up and down to much, wasting your energy off your punches (it needs a sandbag on top to keep it from moving so much) As for me giving advice on bible bagging, I can't do that as I don't bible bag or do any linking, The only thing I could help out on is boxing or martial arts type of approach to the bag...ralph

I absolutely love it when it I finally figure a punching technique. That little 'oh that's how I do it" click feels pretty good. What the video doesn't show is what goes on during the learning process. A lot random nonsense nonwords like "my hands have gone stupided" which they do sometimes, especially my left hand it has a mind of it's own, I'm sure of it.

I think a video a year should do it and since I already met my quota for 2014 I'll see ya next year. Ha. Just kidding. Yeah, I'll probably post some more, especially when I start actually punch drumming instead of this ridiculousness.

Keep my elbows up. Will do. Thanks Zaza!

Thanks, Skinner. I'm not sure everyone is watching the same video I am. I was beyond nervous. I usually practice alone in the studio with the lights dimmed, just me and my music. Just the way I like it.

Thanks, Ventanakaz! I think you're right the platform could be lowered. I think I should start standing on something or just get taller. I noticed the platform does move up and down a lot, I'll ask the trainers if they can help me out with that. Raise your hand if you ever punched yourself in the face. This girl has. Oh yeah, I'm a special breed of awesome. Ha.

Hand raised. I've punched myself countless times...then there was the time the bag came off the hook and caught me square in the nose. I found it harder to punch with watering eyes!

You haven't been properly indoctrinated into the community unless you've either nailed yourself or been smacked with the bag at least once. Most of us it's more times than we care to admit.

                    Hands raised, again and again.
And ZaZa, ...there was THE time the bag came off the hook and popped you in the nose? Only once? You're good, buddy!

                      Correct.

There is nothing Mundane about your skills and certainly no lack of talent. I see very nice single and double fist techniques along with linking. I see that 90% of your misses or near misses are simple due to the bag being a bit too high, forcing your hands to raise up and punch in a slightly downward angle. Notice almost every miss or near miss is really a slipping of your hands on the bag belly in a downward angle, or hitting a bit late in the rebound which has the fist hitting a bit under the belly, which normally creates a weak hit - particularly when trying to link that fist. I venture if you lower the board a bit, or stand on a 1-3 inch platform you will feel much more consistent contact.

ps: loved meeting you at the premier. Thanks for coming.

Thanks for the advice Alan! I doubt I can lower the board any because of the way it is mounted but I will try standing on something. It was an absolute pleasure meeting you at the premier. See you in July!

Great video and thank you for posting. You didnt look bothered by the camera but I sure remember how it changes things when the camera is on. Have hit my face, the drum, the swivel and the wall. Good job!

                              Behold...

I am no expert but one of the things I found caused a lot of the near misses for me was rebound timing change due to the drum bouncing. I see that set up has a lot of drum bounce in it. I toss a 30 pound medicine ball up on top of mine to help more energy return more consistently to the bag.

Might try that as it really does make a difference.

I hear on arms going stupid. My brain knows what I want my arms to do..... But sometimes it is like they rode the short bus to the gym and just do stupid crap I don't want them to do and did not tell them to do!
