    Steel Platform

Hello everyone. I am new to speed bagging and the forum. Does anyone or has anyone ever built or know of anyone who has built a totally steel bag platform. I am considering trying to make one out of plate steel. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

the forum member with a penchant for "steel drums" is SpdyTommy T

He works a lot with steel and made this:

and he absolutely knows how to use it, too! Awesome skills under the "drum"

I think my neighbours would have me issued with an ASBO (Anto Social Behavior Order) for the neighbour from hell if I put a steel drum up.

            Welcome to the forum pal.

I used a 1/4 steel plate to reinforce the Butcher Block. A platform made of all steel, like from a man-hole cover would be cool. I think they are ~100+ lbs

Put a swivel in the middle of this bad boy olympic 45 pound plate and let the bag rebound on the flat side. Or use the 100 pound version if you're afraid the 45lb will vibrate.

I always wondered how that would work if the wall brackets could hold it.

The platform that I use is an old Everlast freestanding unit. The drum is made of 3/4 in plywood or pressboard. the original owner had a 3/8" steel disc cut to fit the size of the drum. the combo of the wood on the striking surface and the steel on top make it a robust bouncy platform.
If I were to make a steel unit, I would make it from 1/2 plate and weld a ring around it and make a top ( just like a drum ) and fill it with sand.
still, it would be SOOOOO heavy... I love steel things, but I rather doubt that a speedbag drum would be the best place to use it.
                    good luck just the same.
