just want to say hello.i am a beginner to the speed bag.i purchased an i-box adjustable platform for myself about a month ago.and an 11 by 8 title speed bag.mounted it to my cinder block in basement,to dampen sound and vibration.platform came with pro swivel, i am able to perform the triplet rythym at a slow pace trying to keep control.i did purchase a powermill evil swivel.i hooked it up last night and discovered my punching really off as i cannot control bag.powermill has a very distinct sound and is very fast.i am thinking i should go back to pro swivel for now.i am glad i have the new swivel if i dont use it now,i plan on graduating to it.maybe someone can offer advice on this. i believe the person i bought it from is jumpcannon a member of this forum.i am not able to send emails at this time so i could not right him back last night.so thank you.i must get the speed bag bible i understand members can get a discount.i am just looking forward to learning how to hit the speed bag.

Welcome Klamdup! We love beginners. Sounds like you got a good set up so far..

If you have the powermill ballhook swivel up and are using it I would suggest leaving it up and NOT going back to the other swivel. Just go a bit slower, and hit a bit easier to learn control. Please think of the "Speed Bag" more as a "Control Bag", because control is much more important, and that comes from starting Slow, Not fast (speed). that often confuses beginners because they think they should immediately try to go as faster, faster, faster, really quick and it doesn't not work that way. You want to learn a slow, smooth swinging motion that is repetitive, and delivers the same force to the bag each time. You need to do many times, perhaps hundreds, during a workout. If any one punch is harder than the other the bag will go faster, and change the timing required for your next punch, and that will lead to a miss until you learn to control your own movements and power. In a few workouts it will get easier.

Yes as a forum member you can get The Speed Bag Bible Book and DVD for a discount, just PM me via this site for the details.

Again, Welcome and we look forward to help you progress in your speed bag training.

      Welcome

      Welcome Klamdup!

Hang in there with the ball hook swivel. Before you know it you will be hitting with consistant control.

Give it time... you will adjust and you will starting punching with better precision and control of power. Within a week or two you will be just as fast as on the pro swivel - it just takes practice!

I too would recommend you stick with the Powermill. Give it two weeks (of daily practice). You'll be much more capable in the long run.

          Welcome to the forum.

            Welcome Klamdup,

It sounds like you have great setup! Stick with it – it won’t get much better.
From my recent experience, the Speed Bag Bible DVD will launch you, and daily practice will make it obvious that progress is a result.
I remember a technique my piano teacher used. One classical song to practice hard, and one popular song for fun.
A small bag (i.e. Title, ProMex, EverLast, etc.) to challenge you, and a large and bouncy bag for comfort (i.e. Te:M). Then, eventually, everything in-between.

I hope this gets you “loosened-up”, Klamdup.
