And Kangaroo's are tougher than cows all the way around. A Kangaroo could kick a cows rawhide anytime in a boxing match.

Then again cowhide may make the best bags, especially for punch drumming because cows have an uncommon ability to improvise rhythm. Actually, they can really get with it when they are in the moood.

I'll meet you half way and say its 50/50. Sometimes you'll find a bag that is just dead. I mean, that sucker won't go no matter what you do to it. Flat, dud, pooey. just dead. I had several Everlast 10x7 4214's like that. I'm talking back in the day when I could rip it at warp speed - and these bags just wouldn't go. They were not roo bags, and I really think the leather came from discontented cows. Kinda like drum heads. Some have pop and some don't, doesn't matter who's stick hits it.
