Tryme, search for SpeedBagSkunk's YouTube videos, he has some clips on the basic punching skills. Best thing to do, of course, is purchase Alan's Speed Bag Bible and DVD. That is the best investment you'll ever make if you want to master the nag.

It is def there! Isn't double punching LR then 2 rebounds?
That def there..... hit the bag two times...left right.... then wait for two rebounds... then repeat 1000 more times......
just make the double punch nice and even ....
        and go slow!

              Here's a video:

Basically, the second fist has to hit the bag after a single rebound. It's impossible to do this if the hands are moving in isolation, i.e. you can't throw the first fist, then think, let me make that a double and followup with the other. you've got to move both hands as though it were one motion.

The Speed Bag Bible explains it much better than I can ...

It is TWO rebounds if you hit a Front Double Punch (FDP) and pass both fists behind to a Reverse Double Punch (RDP)

FDP ' ' RDP, ..... It is Two rebounds inbetween because the R made the next punch from the opposite side of the bag. (Rule of Rhythm #2).

But it is THREE rebounds if you hit from the Front Only ( FDP ' ' ' FDP )

                L-R ' ' ' R-L' ' ' L-R

because the R makes the next punch from the SAME side (Rule of Rhythm #1)

When you say "Double Punch" you could really mean any of five different "double punches" depending on what area of the bag is hit, and what order they contact. But the technique method is the same. The first fist (lead fist) hits the bag, and then the bag rebounds once into the other fist (second fist). It is much easier to do if you move both fists together in one motion on the same plane, and the secret is guaging the distance required between the fists. The harder you punch the closer they will need to be so the second fist is in the correct location to hit the bag in the correct moment of the rebound. The Second fist of a Double Punch usually sounds a bit louder than the lead fist contact.

The Front Double Punch is usually a technique people learn pretty quick.

thanks guys still not having much luck with this or fist rolling, i find i get very annoyed with it and cant seem to land it at all (the fdp) and with the fist rolling the bag just doesnt rebound in a straight line it goes off to the side if that makes sense.

It makes perfect sense, and is most likely caused by your arm position. Try to hold your arms and elbows up close to parallel and move in on the bag so your fists are "Inside your elbows", or making a "V" shape from your fists out to your elbows. moving in will reduce the distance the bag has to travel to the board, and making the "V" shape will help keep the fist point of contact in the center of the front area and the rebound straight on the board.

In a Front Fist Roll (F-Roll) the bag will often have a side-angle rebound (not straight) if the fists are extend out past the elbows. This can be caused by Standing further away from the bag, trying to do the roll with your arms almost straight. moving in and making the V shape will help reduce this effect.

                      ...least it does for me.

ok think i might be progressing. Is it normal for you to be able to do it with a certain hand first i.e left then right rather than right then left? Also does the second rebound usually sound "louder" or harder?
