Did you ever get bitten by a spider and develop premonition?

Seriously, I think you might have developed Spiderman powers !

I have not... I'll check those out.

Yep - we can wonder all we want how many calories it burns or how much it elevates your heart rate, but the fact is it's better than sittin' still!

Which brings up another point from the book - those that start early are better off than those that start late! Beethoven I think is the example he uses. He was writing music very young, like 3 or 4 years old, or something crazy like that.

Better late than never! And anyway, I believe you're much closer to mastery of the bag than Gladwell's number out of a hat would suggest, Tim.

Sounds more like Mozart, but whatever! Irrelevant....

I have plucked a few flies out of the air......

The Bag is definitely hypnotic for me. It lets me concentrate on something fully, while being able to shut off parts of my brain.

And the physical rewards are a great benefit as well. Not to mention all the great baggers out there, and just looking cool to people who have no idea how the speed bag works.

I'm late into this post, 'cause I've been off line lately. What benefits have I had from speed bagging?

sports wise, I think it really helped me during my competitive racquetball years, with having quick hands at the front line when I was jammed or reacting to pass shots. A few Racquetballers told me that getting into the speed bag helped them with that. Reacting to a quick moving target coming at them close to the body. I really think baggin' helped that.

Of course, during my active martial arts years it helped with quicker punches, elbow strikes etc. to moving targets close to the body. Repetitive striking, winning by attrition rather than a single power punch.

The single greatest benefit of speed bagging for me, including my active 35+ punching years, the past 15 "Speed Bag Bible" years, and now the skyrocketing online "youtube" years, has been meeting other baggers. Life to me is about relationships with others, helping where you can and being empathetic where you can't, and the speed bag has either defined or setup (directly or indirectly) some of the greatest relationships, experiences and memories of my life. I wrote the book in serious belief that there were a hidden unseen few that would care. That were as fanatical and dedicated as I and my long time friend and now forum member Jim Caher, glued to Doc Schroeders shadow, watching every punch in hopes that one day we could do that. - and now I see men like Tim, with "Bible" pages attached near his board, and many others that I know from correspondence do that same thing, and many people ripping a speed bag unbelievably from all around, and often mentioning that I may have had something to do with that, and I feel rewarded beyond belief that one of my lifelong dreams has come true in finding so many that feel the same way. This forum, active and vibrant, free of spam, disrespect or arrogance, fostering a gathering of baggers from around the world, with video's and pictures that often have pictures or references to me in the background, is a feeling that cannot be described. So whatever the speed bag has done for you I can safely say it has probably done far more for me. I hope every bagger, member or not, can know the feeling of being thanked every day for their own passions as much as I have. I post that here to suggest to my fellow friends, - never take your passions, your insights, skills or abilities for granted. Somewhere there is person or people who are looking for what you know, what you believe in. No matter how trivial you may think it is, someone cares. And they will thank you for it.

Lastly I'd like to say that the speed bag brought me my wife, but the truth is, that was a "Speed-O", and that is another story.

Ahh, you beat me to it, Spin! But seriously, Alan, it's an honor to have you, the godfather of speed bagging, respond to my thread. I'm glad to hear speed bagging has had such an incredible effect on your life, as I hope it has on mine. You are an inspiration.

Yes, that's probably right. I don't have the book here in front of me ( I had borrowed it), and Classical has never been my strong point

Thanks BUB. When it's all said and done we are all brothers under the board, pretty much standing there for the same reason....

We love it. Glad to have you as a brother bagger and looking forward to seeing you post some videos.
