    Hello I am new

Hello, I am new here. 26 y/o male just purchased a speedbag setup from Amazon (Century). Also just received my hand wrap last night so I decided to give it a try. I admit, it was very hard at first. I couldn't get it to go. But after about 30 mins of trying I got the rhythm worked out (mostly). I shot many clips and here is a mini clip I made. Its short but this was about an hour and half later (my hand were hurting a bit since I had the bag inflated a little more than I should have).

I think my platform is a little too low but my ceiling is 7ft so I just have to deal with it for now until I can figure out a way to hang it a little higher. Currently the top of the bag is at my eye level.

    Check out the video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KN1kuW2EBaQ

Welcome, TooSlow. We were all "TooSlow" when first starting out. Hang in there, patience and practice.

Your platform looks very sturdy will little or no vibration. It's hard to tell from the camera angle if the bag is too high or too low. But if the largest part of the bag is at your chin/mouth level you should be good.

If you want to bag like the majority of people on the forum, you'll want to keep your arms and elbows up, so that when you're ready for some combinations, they'll flow a lot smoother.

Also, if you stick with it, purchasing Speedbag's (Alan Kahn) Speed Bag Bible and DVDs is a must.

    Good luck.

Biff, yes it's a bit low. I can't go higher anymore with this setup so I hae to re make the arms for the platform. I have an idea of what I want to do, made from wood so I can increase the height of it. Right now my eye level is right above the platform and looking at most videos, it seems that might be a little too low. I will post a pic later today to show my height compared to the platform.

As for it being sturdy, right before that video I placed 2 10lbs plates on the platform with a towel under neath the weights so they dont' vibrate nor shift and fall on my head/feet haha

I will take a look at the book/video. I am not much of a reader but the video I can deal with

Welcome, "TooSlow." I'm new here on the forum myself. No worries on being too slow. I started hitting a couple months ago, and I'm getting faster, although the key is definitely to keep your elbows up and also being at the right eye level to the bag. (I'm still dropping the elbows, but like a fellow bagger said to me, "Practice makes perfect.")

You do realize that in a few weeks you're gonna want to change your online name?

Hello. I am on a mission to raise the height of the platform. I got a very cool idea from the "Platform" section and excited to give that a try. I gotta try to keep my elbow up. I am sure I can get used to it quickly. I did not know before. I will try that tonight. How long does average person practice? I was there for about an hour and half and found it extremely addictive! So I'll be at it for a while.

I'll keep my name cuz it's going to take me a very long time to catch up to SpeedBag and he'll still probably call me "Too Slow" LOL

Hello TooSlow. In a couple of months, people will be asking "Why TooSlow"?
For the 1st hour or so, you done mighty fine mate, to hit the 123 basic rhythm. It took me a few days, I think! I can see the platform was to low and it sounds like you have a plan.

              Welcome to the forum.

Thank you guys, for the warm welcome.
When I first hit the bag, I was thinking "Dear God, this is going to take a while" but soon as I started hitting a little harder, noticed the bag bounced straight and not all over the place then got it figured out. I will keep you guys updated of course with a monthly video. Unless I get better quicker then maybe once every couple weeks.

Hopefully I'll be as quick as you guys then I my name will resemble a big guy named "Tiny Tim"

I don't know about everyone else, but I spend about thirty minutes bagging a day.

I did it for around 90 mins yesterday. I went at it today but it was hurting my knuckles after 30 sec and was pretty bad so I stopped. Maybe I should calm down a little before doing it too long. I'm sure if I keep doing it, i'll eventually get used to the pain.

ahh! let's hope not! You should not have to get used to any pain when hitting the speed bag. There should be NO pain. Hopefully your body will adapt and the pain will go away and it will no longer bother your hands. That is what most of us find anyway.

Either way, few setups are more stable than a ceiling drum.
Heyy that's a pretty good idea too! That will be my 2nd option. Might be idle for my mom (no she's not bagging LOL) but she has to walk through it to go into the laundry room and being it so low she might hit it.

But before I try the whole ceiling route, I'm going to go ahead and inforporate my existing platform to something I seen earlier so it's also adjustable. I just basically need a different arm for the platform which I can raise at least 6" higher
