    free standing speed bag?

free standing speed bag?I am just getting started down this road. I have a bag stand with a heavy bag on one side and speed bag on other side. I have seen several U tube videos on how to make a much heaver board for a speed bag mounted to a wall.

How much difference is there between them? and would it make any difference if I added another board or two to my platform? thanks.

There is a lot of vibration with the majority of free standing platforms. The way that the board is attached to the main frame is frankly a bit on the flimsy side. Just adding to the board does little good. There are commercial free standing set ups that are quite stout, but they are also very expensive.

I would think that would help stabilize it, Maybe two supports in the back corners

That's what I was thinking. Run a 2x4 or 4x4 across top of drum and about 6" beyond drum on each side. then add supports to floor or base of stand.

For free standing platforma, vibration can be mitigated with bracing, weight, and anchoring. If you have room on top of the speed bag platform, a heavy sand bag will cheaply reduce a lot of vibrations.

Speedbagbard is correct about the sand bag on top of the drum, Sand will absorb the vibration better than if you put weight plates on top, i have two martial arts square canvas bags on top of my drum, but you will probably need more than what i have, Whatever you put on top of the drum, Make sure you secure it so it doesn't come crashing down on your head.
