I see, alright let me address one more final issue that i am considering before drilling:
If using 4 pieces of metal to mount the platform (the round thing in the pic), and the mounting points were eight, as seen in the pic (i forgot one point in the right one, i think you understand where it should be, lower right piece), would you choose to do it in the left drawing way or in the right drawing way? The whole mount on the left, makes a square, but the holes would not be completely even on the ceiling as it is obvious and perhaps hitting it from all directions will not have the same effect. In the left one, the whole thing would create an "X" or a cross, and the holes in the ceiling would be evenly distributed. I am wandering whether one of those would be better in absorbing vibration and would be generally better in endurance.
Any comments or suggestions at this final stage are welcome.

The quality of the drawing was not very good so i made another one, to help you understand the spacial elements.
ABCD is the ceiling.
X is an observer, standing inside the room, to help you realize the angle we are looking at the ceiling from.
In case 1, all four brackets will be attached to the four wooden pieces in a vertical way.
In case 2, the four brackets will be attached to the four wooden pieces in a diagonal way. This is what i am thinking about, would this diagonal attachment compromise the beneficial effects of the wooden pieces?
As for the issue of even distribution, in case 1, the force would be equally absorbed if the bag was to be hit from the right, or from the left, but would be different if the bag was to be hit from the front (as we re looking at it), or from the opposite side to that. I mean, as one can see, the force would be differently absorbed if one would hit the bag in a direction parallel to the wooden pieces, or in a direction parallel to the metal brackets..
In case 2 though, theoretically, if the brackets form a cross, that is if they form a 90 degree angle with each other in the middle of the conceivable square, than the four brackets would be totally even with each other and the force would be the same on them, from any point of the 360 degrees span one would hit the speedbag from.
These are my thoughts..

I like version 1, on the left, and my reason is because the force of the bag contact will be on the outer surface of your board, and that is where all the parts connect and offer stability in number 1. On the diagonal setup, the angles come into the middle were the swivel is located, but there is no repetitive pounding force in the middle for all the bag contacts are out toward the edge. I think having all the connections out toward the edge on all areas will offer better stability and reduce the vibration at least as much if not more than the diagonal system. But I can't prove that with any other logic than the speed bag force all lands on the board where the belly hits, and that is out on the boards edge.

That's a good point i admit i haven't thought of that, since i concentrated on how the tension would evenly transfer to the ceiling and was ready to do it the diagonal way.
But if we take a look at the following picture, as looking at the 1 case platform from right below, than would you agree that...
...hitting the speedbag in a way parallel to the mounted brackets (left and right arrows) shown will be quite ok, while hitting the speedbag in a way vertical to the brackets shown will be at a disadvantage and would increase instability, thus the platform not completely full filing a possible 360 degrees speedbaging effect for the athlete?Last edited by Pegasos; 04-24-2008, 07:47 AM.

Well yeah man, sure it will be ok, i just want to make a platform that can be used all around, in 360 degree way!
So, in case 1, the 'square' attached to the ceiling, will have 4 points of mounting each side that the brackets run horizontal, and 2 points of mounting each side the brackets are vertical to. Thus, 2 sides will be "weaker" than the other two, and probably provide more vibration, i think..

I think any uneven vibration that you are predicting could probably be evened out with sand bags over the top, particularly the "vibrating" area.Speed Bag
