    Higgins

Sad that we can't walk into a Sears store in any town today and buy something beautiful like this. What happened? I see, at Sears.com they're selling $66 Cletos these days, but still, I'd like to see a Higgins hanging in every town.

With the advent of the chain sporting goods stores, Sears (along with Montgomery Wards and a lot of local dept store chains) could not compete with them. The J.C. Higgins brand, named after one of Sears early sporting goods buyers as I recall, was really high quality stuff back in the day. The brand was put on just about every item in the sporting goods dept. To give you and idea of Sears buying power back in the day these items were made by major suppliers in their lines and branded J.C. Higgins, much like Kenmore line of washers and dryers were actually Maytags. By the late 1960's the brand name was all but retired.

Sounds like you'd like to have this bag.

I notice it says on the bottom, "max inflate to 3 pounds" That seems a bit low to me.

The air was thicker back then.

I don't know, I watch TV and see a lot of "hot air" these days, which I guess is thinner. Hey, maybe glober warming effects speed bags also.

either way, a bag that big taking such little air pressure is interesting.
