It appears that the spoked wheel concept was an attempt to reduce the weight of the unit, vibration and posssibly noise while in use. We can only surmise that it only acheived the first one, I can see that using the bags of the era would have put some serious strain on the outer rim resulting in premature failure of the spoke system.

As far as how it was mounted, it appears that a tubular "L" bracket with a flange on the wall end and what looks like a pipe flange on the platform center. This makes me how they delt with a lath and plaster wall, as I would think that it would only stay up on either a wood sheathed or masonary wall.

There was a time not too long ago that you could have picked up just about any of those for ten or so dollars a piece. Now there are sports collectors out there that will pay some bucks for them, ergo the $65 + asking prices on a number of those bags. The Wilson bag on the NonParel rebound ring is great find and the person is just about giving it away. The local pickup is the kicker tho, I wish I was going through that section of Indiana soon. I'd love to add the 1940 Spalding to my collection. This place has listed a number of old school bags in the last year, and they inevitably wind up going for more than I can afford at the moment.

A striking/speed bag museum? Maybe it's time will come soon
