Just tinkering a new hybrid swivel design

Since I have been taking a break from punching to let my shoulder arthritis cool down, I started tinkering with some swivel designs. Here is one using off-the-shelf parts.

So far, looks promising. It has some favorable features and behaviors. Quiet, accurate rebounds, low resistance, fits Everlast bolt pattern, easy to change bag hook.

Pretty close. That is a u-joint for the driveshaft on an RC boat. Not sure what the flange bearing is for. The eyebolt/s-hook was from a new Everlast plastic swivel, and I cut the eye bolt to fit the u-joint.

Except for cutting the eye bolt with a hacksaw, the rest of it was just bolt on. One of the reasons I chose that particular flange bearing was the hole spacing matched any 2 adjacent holes for the standard Everlast swivel mount.

Rusty, you might like to try a spinning eyebolt swivel. I made mine with a stainless steel eyebolt bolted to a dry stainless steel bearing. The bag is attached by paracord tied into a loop that's permanently left on the bag, the loop is tied with a special no slip knot. The bearing I used is this one,

That bearing spins very freely which is needed for a good eyebolt swivel that can work with even the lightest bags. It's a sealed unlubricated bearing.

Below is a bag attached to the swivel. The bearing is set into a block of hardwood. The eyebolt itself is opened up just enough so that the paracord is a very tight fit through the gap -- this makes a quick bag change possible. Open up the gap any further and the bag will fly off into your face or across the room when you least expect it.

The spinning eyebolt idea dates back to the early days of speed bagging, Spalding sold one in their 1895 catalog.
