Another sample of speed bag trapping

Check out this clip by Mike Tanaka, tip of the week: speedbag and at 1:34 into the video you will see him break from normal triplet rhythm punching to a movement, trapping style.

Again, this is a pretty normal method in boxing and now MMA training.

thats some amazing trapping. i tryd trapping the other day barehanded it was real hard and a bloodly up my knuckle a bit accidentally hitting the swivel then i put my bag gloves on to try it that way and it may it alot easyer so i could get the feel of the bag and how to trap it. now i can actully do it without gloves now. not as good as the guy in the vid or hispanicmakingpanic but i can do i well.

It's very hard to do when you hit the bag near full power. You have to time your contact to hit hard yet deaden the rebound. AND as the bag swings around in all directions, it requires pinpoint accuracy to put your fist on the spinning bag at the exact moment. Many people underestimate this method of training, but it really requires work and practice.

            Trapping

Beleive it or not I had made this video prior to this thread. I made it for Alan to show my improvement and appreciation for putting me on his website. I go full power like ednockemdead, the bagger in Alan's last post, and try to show combos.

Commiting to the punch is the hardest part. I haven't been doing it long, but I've noticed that power increases with accuracy. Maybe subconciously at first we tend to hold back for fear of missing and worst yet, clipping the swivel. I'd like to see your attempts whenever you feel comfortable with your technique.

Two things about his video really stand out. First, I love the old school "ghost ring" around your board where the bag hits. I have only seen the "ring" in old 1930 and 1940 pictures *note the ring around the swivel.

Second, I notice how you are hitting the bag as it moves UP to the board, rather than directly after it rebounds. That is the secret to power shots and pinning the bag (killing the rebound). the stroke goes with the bag movement.
