Unknown Vintage Swivel

Special thanks to ventanakaz for winning this beauty on eBay for me!

So, it's a pretty cool swivel design. There is a little latch that, when released, allows you to twist the center of the swivel off for easily changing the rope. There is no date or name, just "patent pending" on the back of the base. There is a little crack in the base, but it doesn't affect anything so far.

I finally had the time to clean it up & put some new rope in it. This thing is sweet! The only sound you hear is the bag on the platform, it's as quite as when I just attached a bag with rope on an eye-hook. I'll post a little video soon.

Which is not unusual, considering that metallurgy as we now know it was pretty much still in it's infancy back then.

Pot metal is not easily repaired, if at all. I have one of these swivels but have not used it.

What the hey, that swivel didn't have a crack on it when I received it from ebay. btw the base is made outta pot metal and it needed all four bolts to attach it to the drum, thats why it cracked. With the base being pot metal it needed all the bolts to disperse the pressure over it. You might be able to get the crack brazed ? maybe.

Must have taken a hit during shipping because it was that way out of the shipping bag. It was a very fine (hairline) crack. Doesn't really affect it though. I hadn't put all the screw in yet... just wanted to get pictures up for all to see.

Nice. Every swivel has it's own sound and feel, can't have too many, collect them all.
