    Unknown Vintage Swivel

Special thanks to ventanakaz for winning this beauty on eBay for me!

So, it's a pretty cool swivel design. There is a little latch that, when released, allows you to twist the center of the swivel off for easily changing the rope. There is no date or name, just "patent pending" on the back of the base. There is a little crack in the base, but it doesn't affect anything so far.

I finally had the time to clean it up & put some new rope in it. This thing is sweet! The only sound you hear is the bag on the platform, it's as quite as when I just attached a bag with rope on an eye-hook. I'll post a little video soon.

I've seen but one of these, it's a slick setup. Still don't know who made it tho.

Which is not unusual, considering that metallurgy as we now know it was pretty much still in it's infancy back then.

Pot metal is not easily repaired, if at all. I have one of these swivels but have not used it.

With the base being pot metal it needed all the bolts to disperse the pressure over it. You might be able to get the crack brazed ? maybe.
Must have taken a hit during shipping because it was that way out of the shipping bag. It was a very fine (hairline) crack. Doesn't really affect it though. I hadn't put all the screw in yet... just wanted to get pictures up for all to see.

Thank again Ralph...it is a fun one to hit on!

Forgot to post this quick iPad video of the rope swivel in action. I really do like this one a lot. it's fast, smooth and all you hear is the bag on the platform!

Nice. Every swivel has it's own sound and feel, can't have too many, collect them all.
