Trying to get my elbows more involved...

I've been sick for about five days, so I haven't been spending as much time of the bag as I usually do.....and it shows!

After my workout this evening, just a quick vid of some stuff I've been working on.

Oh, and a pic of my little workout area....

Rattler! Great stuff! You are nice and even with all the combos! Great form!
Man you are putting time in! Smooth elbows!
You can hear the "click" sound when you come back to the front from behind with the double..maybe you have to slow the pace down a bit or get "in position" with a smaller return motion to stay right with the bag.
Real jamming! cool garage workout area! I have so much drum stuff around and mountain bikes for me and the kids, it never looks that organized!
    BAGS UP!

Looking very smooth RenoRatller! You got style!

Your actually making them look effortless, as your elbows appear to tap the bag and stay in the ready position.

        Nice work mate.

          Thanks Spin!

Yeah, I hate that click. Every time you hear it it's like a failure, haha. I would say I hit that double good maybe one out of every four tries. Which annoys the crap out of me, so I keep trying them more and more.

And I hear you about the garage, the other side is a mess. And if you look hard enough there is a cab and an amp in that picture.....My bedroom is full of guitars...

Looks great. Lots of single elbows in there, some doubles, and some linking. Split fist near the end, nice. You look angry around the :42 mark Just remember , practice makes perfect.

You're doing fantastic. Convert those single downard elbows into double downward elbows.

Nice garage work out area... never hurts to have some "motivation"

              Thanks!

What is the proper technique for double downward elbows? When I try them I always end up hitting the bag coming straight down from the top, which seems like it puts me out of position.

                elbows

Reno, your going great with the elbows and all your combos so far,it will all click in time.but when adding anything new to the combo,if its elbows or fists ,practice only that, real slow over and over and forget about any other part of any combo, slowly build speed, then try it in your combo , again real slow and build up.youll be the Reno Skunk Scissor in no time, this is only a suggestion i hope it will help.keep punching and posting .deano

Looks to me like you're ready for punch drumming. I imagine your neat little work out area there would have a dirty great big ghetto blaster of some description hanging about, give it a go.
The passion you show for the speed bag is strong, enjoy it.

Thanks RR, this post made me a guru.

There are a couple of ways to interpret the "Double Downward" motion. Personally, I don't really do double Downward Double Elbow strikes, since it an a slightly awkward swing and wierd movement. Fact is: you will rarely have inward motions done repetitively with both arms. this would be like having to FSPs togther. (Left -Right) In the basic rhythm that rarely happens. Same thing with this elbow strike, but your go it by constantly pumping your arms up and down to do this. The continuous Downward Double ES is a challange and my take a while to the get the feel of. Do it slo at first.

                    Good luck.

RR nice work. Your time under the board is paying off. I wish I had that much space in my garage. I'm pretty cramped, but make do.

I'm guessing Tim meant a downward double elbow strike (D-DES) as opposed to double downward elbow strikes. You hit several outward double elbow strikes (O-DES) [2:25 - 2:45], so attempting the D-DES shouldn't be a big leap.

Try not to get frustrated; it's practice and patience. You're doing fine.

That's what I thought he meant, and what my question was about. After the hit with the elbow on the D-DES, does the fist just follow straight down?

I know I looked a bit frustrated(and I was!), but while I am usually a very patient person sometimes I get frustrated when I cannot repeat something. If I can learn how to do it right once, I feel like I should be able to do it the same every time. I know that is impossible, but just how I am at times. And it never discourages me, just makes me practice more.

Yes. Just practice the D-DES by itself; get a sense of it. After you feel comfortable with it, add something simple to it, either before or after the D-DES. Then you can make it part of a longer routine.

Yep, that's pretty much all their is to it. In watching the video your hand is really close to the bag at that point anyway, just hang it out there a bit more (after the elbow) and you'll have a D-DES.
