Very nice, the tradition of bagging at the beach goes back at least this far, maybe earlier. It must be noted that Venice during this time was still a very large amusement area, essentially the Coney Island of the West with several amusement piers, so there would always be a lot of foot traffic in the area then (as now).

What I find interesting is the vertical bag on the pole that the young lady is using. It appears to be a piece of pipe fastened to a metal base. It looks like the bag is attached with an elastic cord, and at rest would keep the bag upright. All motion is at the bag, none with the pole.
