My New Bags Came Today...1st Impressions

I got the Title Turbo 10x7 http://store.titleboxing.com/turbo-speed-bag.html and the Title Classic 9x6 http://store.titleboxing.com/classic-speed-bags.html These are two entirely different animals that should meet a couple of needs I have. The Classic 9x6 looks very well made, rebounds quickly and even has the good ole smell of leather. It seems well suited for me right now at my current skill level. It is very light to the touch and is easy to hit. The Turbo fills the other need that I have, which is to teach a couple of my kids. It looks like it's probably vinyl, but pretty well made for $12.95. It does not rebound fast, which should make it good to learn on. It feels pretty heavy and you can tell you're hitting something, so it should also be good for a power workout. My first impressions for both of these bags is good. The ultimate test will be the duability, which will take a little time. Great prices on both of these bags too.

Hey Randy, just got mine today as well. I didn't get the same experience you did. (See my thread.)

I'm hoping that it's my lack of experience rather than the bag. I'll keep experimenting and see what happens. I'm glad you have a good feeling about this bag. It was a great price.

      Hey Biff,

I started posting in your thread and had to leave for awhile before I was through. Just came back and realized you had posted here. Yeah, my Classic seems close to the speed of the my Everlast 10x7. The Title Turbo that I got is pretty slow. I have the Everlast beginners set that came with the platform, gloves, jump rope and bag. Is that the one you have?

I bought the platform, bag and swivel separately.

        This is the bag I bought (10 x 7).

Okay, my Everlast bag is different . I wish I'd bought them separately...but found the set on ebay for cheap. Could you tell much difference when you added the 3/4" plywood? I was thinking about doing that too.

The platform became "firmer." I could tell the difference immediately. Of course, I added the sand at the same time, and I'm sure that made a difference as well. The bag seemed to rebound and sound better as well.

I really think both were very helpful.

Thanks. I think I'll go ahead and do it...sounds worth the effort.

Extra weight on the board (whether more wood or sand) almost always helps...

Here's my platform that has an 80 lb heavy bag on top of it

Great video. Wish my hands would/could do that...maybe some day.
I was just watching one of your other videos and commenting to my son that you had that heavy bag on top of your board. That's gotta be solid as a rock.

Take a look at my first video and you'll see kind of where I started.... that video was about 2 years ago. (I did some boxing style punching at a gym back in 98-99 but didn't start punching "bible" style until late 2005) All it takes is practice... if I can do it, anyone can.

In regards to the platform, it is pretty solid. It still moves though, especially with big (10x7) bags and fast hitting. I think the only platform that won't move at all is one that's attached directly to the ceiling.

Thanks for the encouragement. I'll keep practicing. I can actually keep the bag going for as long as my arms will hold out using the boxing style that I learned years ago, but the style I'm seeing around here is like starting over for me. I was born without rhythm. I need to get me a copy of the book or dvd and start from the beginning.

I'm in the same boat as you Randy, I have worked up to 8 rounds doing the traditional triplet boxing rythm and I'm getting some of the combinations down but they are like starting over again.

It's like trying to teach old dogs new tricks. I guess we'll just have to keep practicing and it will come to us bit by bit. Sure is fun trying though.

Yes it sure is fun and frustrating at the same time...

I reinforced my budget platform today by adding 2 circles of 3/4" cabinet grade plywood to the original mdf board. This really made a difference. I also countersunk the carriage bolts into the plywood.
I've had a chance to use both my new bags more this weekend. I like both of them. The Turbo will really give you a workout. You have to hit it pretty hard to really get it moving. My son likes it because it is slower and easier for him to react to. I weighed it with some cheap kitchen scales and it looks like it's around 9 or 9.5 oz....pretty heavy. After working with the Turbo, I'll put the Classic 9x6 on for a break. In comparison, it's so light and small that just light taps will keep it moving...smooth as butter. It will be a great bag to try learning some new techniques on. Time will tell how these bags will hold up, but so far it looks like they will last a long time. The seams are holding up well.
