When You Hit It Straight It Does Take Away Speed Beacause Of The Padding But I Deal With It Sometime Most Of Times I Use My Mexican Handwraps Because I Hit The Heavy Bag And Double End Bag 2 But If Im Only Hitting The Speed Bag I Slip Those On Quick And Go!! Agreed. And the gel padding (if that is the padding inside..) will eventually roll around at high speeds, changing the sense of where your hands are during linking around the bag. Least ways, that is what I found with gel wrap coverings.

I would like to say some words about Gel glove wraps. I have few at home, like this and the EverGel ( http://store.everlastboxing.com/ever...ove-wraps.html ). In the past, I bought some in order to protect my skin, which is unfortunately delicate. I have a 150 lbs heavy bag and after each training I had some injuries ! I used them on my speed bag too.

Before I speak about Gel glove wraps let me first say two words about speed bag gloves ( http://store.everlastboxing.com/ever...-glv-4307.html ). Some people often ask if using speed bag gloves is a good thing or not. For me I say no , and for severals reasons :

- Most of them are available only in one size so if your hands are small, you are in trouble !
- The leather is not specially supple, so when you close your hand the leather make some pleat from each side and when you hit the bag, it takes some strange direction !
- You loose a lot of sensation when you wear them.

For me you can use these gloves only if your bag is big, heavy , and you hit hard and in a primary way !

Now, about Gel glove wraps. In the past I have used some and like the speed bag gloves I don't think that is the best way to hit a speed bag. Ok it's easy to wear, to put on but the layer of gel is most embarrassing than useful. When you hit the bag you are forced to be careful the layer of gel not touching the bag inintentionally. So you become slower ... and you loose a lot of sensation too...

About Gel glove wraps and boxing , just one remark : maybe your knuckles are safe but most of time your thumb and your wrist are not correctly protected because the glove doesn't enclose your hand enough, so take care when you wear some, you risk some injuries !!!

So what can we do ?

I must be the only person who finds it more controllable and comfortable to hit with gloves. Maybe I'm doing something wrong but I'm sure having fun, so don't tell me what I'm doing wrong.

Either Way What I Wear 90% Of The Time Is My Mexican Style Handwraps Because I Hit The Speed Bag Last And When I Hit The Heavy Bag I Need All Around Protection But Good Point Paco

I'm really happy for you Nabalchi Personally, I have put 2 pieces of plywood on my plattform too and it works fine ! There's a big difference

I only use mexican HandWraps for all my training, but when I hit my heavy bag, I put some cotton mitts up the handwraps ( http://www.domyos.com/FR/mitaines-de-boxe-3474739/ ). Some professionnals boxers wear 2 pairs of handwraps ! I think it's a another good solution to protect knuckles correctly. For me the wrist's protection is essential, and this is why I'm not use Gel Wraps glove anymore.

I don't use the Mexican style handwraps, but the ones I use work fine. What's the difference between Mexican handwraps and any other.Is it the length? I may try them eventually. I've also added a piece of plywood to my platform and I may add a second piece.

Regular hand wraps are made of 100% cotton and therefore do not stretch much at all. Mexican hand wraps have some elasticity woven into them which allows them to conform to your hands and wrists better. The size doesn't matter.

The Evergel does not cover 2nd row of knuckles. I make contact there too.

The Century Neoprene http://www.karatedepot.com/tr-gl-05.html gives me protection everywhere plus makes a flat knuckle surface and side hand surface to make rebounds more precise for me.

Bare hand, wrap hand and Everlast leather gloves don't give the protection I need or the more precise rebounds I get with the Century gloves.

Maybe it's from damage I did to my knuckles years ago from hitting very hard heavy bags and the many bare handed fist fights I was in that I have damaged, sensitive knuckles, but I need good protection especially on medium to X-large speed bags. But even on the 8 x 5 and 9 x 6 size bags, the Century gloves give me more control.

Like you said, Paco, what works for me is what counts.

Atgatt, I'm a little surprise that you have to protect your second row too, generally you don't have to use them, but if you are sensitive here, I respect your choice, specially if you feel comfortable using them. Personally I don't recommend the neoprene gloves to hit heavy bag. Neoprene gloves are made to fitness and light works. If you hit some 150 lbs heavy bag only with these gloves, for sure you will have some troubles and injuries !!! When I hit my heavy bag, I wear mexican handwraps, mittains and heavy bag glove ( http://store.titleboxing.com/esbg.html ). You can wear traditional boxing gloves too but when you are alone it's more difficult to put them on.

It's very important to feel comfortable and have a good protection too.

It doesn' matter the way you hit the bag, as soon as you feel happy and have fun

Paco, yes, those Everlast neoprene are just like my Century.

The MMA look interesting, but I ask myself why when I'm happy with the Century.

After reading your post this morning, I did an experiment. I put the Century glove on my left hand and kept my right hand bare fisted.

Hitting the smallest bag I have, the 8 x 5, I noticed that the gloved hand made hitting it more comfortable. No "scraping" feeling.

Hitting the "Big Bubba Bubble" 12 x 10, there was a big difference in comfort with the gloved hand.

The neoprenes are light. The only detriment that I got over real quick with the neoprene, is that you have to ever so slightly rotate your hand down farther when going fast so it does not touch the bottom of the bag.
