It's impressive that they designed and built it better then then now.
Don't buy your speed bag from the same place you buy your tackle box.

Post is a little old, but, what you are describing sounds like an NGE platform (maybe an Everlast if the circle on the sled does not contain script letters and it is blue and not grey in color). The NGEs I have seen have a different drum configuration than the NMW platforms. Personally, I think the NGE setup produces a solider hit. I have a soft spot in my heart for the NMWs and always will, but, as the OP pointed out the striking surface is composed of slats and although the drum is thick it is hollow. It's almost like striking a drum, if that makes any sense. I'm guessing the difference has something to do with the styles of the day in which they were made, i.e., the NMWs used a larger bag and rope swivel.Originally posted by gfe76 View PostI have one exactly like that...not restored, but in very good condition. The top of the drum is not "enclosed" like yours. The metal frame holding the drum attaches to what looks like exposed 2x4's--but it is all original. I love it...very stable and easy, easy to adjust. I was lucky..I found mine in a YMCA in an old equipment room where it laid in a corner disassembled. The "Y" took it down for liability reasons.
