For those that like the bearing type swivel ...

I really wanted a shorter swivel. I thought 'till my head hurt and finally came up with a design that is simple to build and reduces swivel lenghth and makes changing the bag easy.

Thought I would share it here if anyone is interested ....

That bearing will last almost forever in speed bag service, the capacity of that bearing is tremendous. Nice work !

Great instructional "how to" video. There are a lot variations on the different type's of swivels. Getting the shorter swing definitely makes for a faster bag.

That's too funny... I've been looking at this one for the past year thinking it would make a nice swivel. Nice job!

I buy all my swivel bearings from VXB (through Amazon). Super fast shipping and they've got some trick bearings in their catalog. The gym where Speed Bag Mike hits has swivels made from the big square flange mounted type you link to.

Outstanding ! I use the Everlast swivel as you describe, but by the time the length of the swivel is added to some of the bag loops, it is just tooooo long for me. this is an excellent solution, thank you very much.

I looked at that bearing also! 1 5/16" thick. The one I use is 1" thick.

This swivel is wonderfully innovative, and the video is great! Did you build your own platform also, Swingnmiss?

Thanks CeSalt. I built the rack about a year(?) ago and the drum last week when finished the swivel. My first bag was a 5208 I got by walking into a sporting goods store in Farmington, NM 20 years ago! That is a massive bag but I still use it.

My son and I really enjoy hitting the bag! Like this forum too. Wish I had time to go to gathering this year.

Who knows? Something might change so you can attend.

So glad for you and your son that your 5208 called you into action. Several folks here have built their own setups, and from the attention to detail you paid to that custom swivel I'm thinking your board is like marble.
