Actually, speed bag "rings" made from wagon wheels or similiar circular steel were quite common in yesteryear. I have seen many versions of them. Sometimes you see them in the old "outdoor" gym boxing camps, where each piece of equipment had it's own outdoor ring. The wooden boards would rot from weather, while the metal rebound rings would last a lot longer.
