    Eyeless hook and ball swivel?

Does having an eyeless hook and ball swivel make it a better or worse design? Seems most hook and ball have the eye and S-hook combo, but just saw this one and was wondering how it would work. It looks like you eliminate the hang up you get sometimes, (for us beginners anyway) of the S-hook on the eye.
Curious if MsDeville or Jumpcannon experimented with this type when they made theirs. I'm sure in Alan's years of bagging he has used one at some point in time. Sorry if this has been covered before.

    Here's another one.

I've never tried one of those. I'm guess once the hook runs out of travel the bag loop would have to pivot on the hook resulting in friction & messing up the course of travel. In other words slow & untrue rebounds. But i'm just guessing.

JC pretty much nailed it. These style swivels all seemed to be made of thin stamped metal (they are still selling these things by the carload on eBay)that wears out quickly with any serious use. Also, when you start using the bag loop as a swivel point you're going to wear out the loop, maybe not before the swivel wears out, but it doesn't do the bag much good.

Oh yes. I second Jumpcannon and Dutchmans posts. Also, Look down my SBC swivel page for a few pictures, and underneath the plastic ballhook info you will see a similiar swivel with some recommendations.

All good to know. Thanks for the input. So even if it was heavy duty made, without the eye and S Hook combo, it would still not work very good? To the untrained eye,(mine) it seemed that the bag would still swing the same with the J hook going directly into the ball.

Yes it probably will swing the same - for a while, but not for long. I've only used a couple of these back years ago and the softer metal housing did not hold up and after a few weeks of use the metal around the housing edge got slight "beat down" and the ball fell out. Not very fast when compared to other higher quality ballhooks.
