    New Drum

    Hello Folks,

Haven't been on the forum in awhile but still managing to hit the bag around at least a few minutes a day..Still a hopeless BAGADDICT, I have a rather naive question, I am in the process changing out my melamine drum for solid wood. Beech. What type of finish would be the best choice? Stain, varnish, oil or ??? Any input would be much appreciated.

Personally, I like tung oil. It's easy to work and very durable.

                  Dogtoke,
I just made a new drum and I used Minwax stain / polyurathane in one on a piece of oak wood and it came out great. The finish comes out glossy with almost a lacquor finish if that is a look you like. I will try to provide a pic. It is on a Balazs i-box platform
