    Ok thank for that pic. The one i had was drilled out with a ball end mill.....therefore giving the curve inside.

      Yea i was a serious switcher when i transitioned to the ball hook. Now i am fully stuck to the feel of it.

          OK...it may be easier to machine the one you have. Let me tinker with the one i have first then i will let ya know within a day. Now that you have interest in a threaded centerpiece it makes me wanna run a batch from scratch and see if anybody with a chainlink wants to get one from me. It would thread right in.

            what size ball do you use? if you got the ball mill and the tooling for a 1.125 or 1.250 ball and socket that would be the ticket. There is plenty of metal mine is 1.020 socket and my ball is worn down to .980 so I got a .040 aprox play.

              That answered a question i was just about to ask you. The one i have is also 1.020 bore ID. And the material i use for my balls is 1.000 roundstock that i cut/face/drill/tap/and turn the radii on. For now i have only been using 3 1/2" or 1" stock. I dont have any stock just over an inch. The guy who is doing my millwork on the radial ball turner is holding me up bad. He said 2 weeks and its been 3 (but i am beginning to understand why metal working is so unpredictable...lol)! I am going in there today to see whats up. I have been turning my balls with a radius tool that is ground to a set curve. I need my ball turner to make different size balls. So right now i am at his mercy. I am half tempted to make about 20 centerpieces from scratch with the threads. I am a tool junkie and i "need" a reason to buy more tooling. LOL.

                I was also thinking that boring it out and putting in a bushing then cut the bushing to 1.000 with a ball mill for the socket. then all ya need to do is make bushings as they wear knock it out and press in a new one. A bronze bushing would never wear out the ball either so only one wear point.

                  They actually have oil impregnated bronze bushings. We used to call it oilite. That may solve the need of ever having to oil the ball also. So many ideas....so little time. My regular fulltime job and my girlfriend gets in my way of trying all this stuff. LOL....she may have to go....j/k

                    I like this idea.

                    Also wonder how a Delrin bushing would hold up? I have a Delrin/stainless steel ball bearing that spins very freely, goes on and on "forever" -- with no lube. But a Delrin bushing?
