    speedball platform help

So guys I'm new to this and I want to choose a speedball platform(home usage). It has to be adjustible, because I'm sure when I'll mount it I will be displeased with it's height ... .
I have found a similar topic, but the answers given there aren't good enough for me(so mayby some fresh thoughts?) ...

I am thinking about this platform :

    And this one:

Which is similar in construction to this one :

    and this one :

(So mayby the mechanism isn't bad if there are 3 similar types?)

Lets leave the swivel speed bag out of this. I'm interested in your thoughts about pros and cons of the adjusting-mechanisms used in them. Will the platform be stable, will it resonate ?
Here where I live I do not have access to a wide variety of boxing equipment, but those that I suggested I am able to purchase and these two(to which I am not convinced) :
    Reebok

    And this monster ;]

    Welcome to the forum ujujinsan!

Mmm.. I was asking similar questions a while back and unfortunately for me no-one had really used a platform like the Lonsdale and pics 3 and 4 on your post. I still have not put up that platform, the centre support is ultra heavy and the Cleto Reyes version looks a monster

Your choice may well be made depending on the supporting wall you're gonna use. The platforms with the small square back bracket don't spread the weight in the same way as the platforms at the bottom of your post. They could be rock solid but you'll need a thick and very sound wall.

I'm no expert and I'm sure others will come along and chip in to help you out, I think the first platform in your pic may be most likely to get vibration issues.

    Good luck!

I was hoping you'd reply, bacause I've seen this:

      ;]
Not having it wall mounted and looking and the big screw, do you think that after a few punches it will loosen up the grip and start unscrewing or something ? I'm not sure how this mechanism prevents the big screw from rotating upwards/downwards?

I have a concrete wall so no worries ;]

The handle(s) are what lock the post into position, they are essentially a locking nut. AS far as if they are any good, sorry can't help you there either. The only time I've seen this type of platform in use was on that short lived reality TV show that Sly Stallone had (Contenders?). Couldn't really tell from the little footage of speed bag usage how they held up.

I can't comment on the locking nut either but for the price of these platforms you have to assume they do the job well. The central screw however will make it more awkward to put weight on top of the platform, but the pros are the compact design and possibility of fine tuned height adjustments.

It's good you have a concrete wall, no probs there. I'm no expert, but going by forum favourites, look for a model with a thicker rebounding board. But in saying that many people here seem to have a rock solid set up with a dual bracket design like the everlast adjustable/ balazs platforms:

IMO, I'd go for "the monster" at the bottom. You won't have to doubt it's solidity or ability to handle any bag you throw under it.

              Good Luck

As with most people if you haven't tried equipment it's hard to judge. I have worked with boards in military gyms and some fitness centers. If they are smart they will have better equipment that is adjustable. It looks like you are willing to spend some money and it would be a shame if you end up not satisfied. I suggest you get around to every gym or personal setup near you that you can try out their equipment. You will find that mounts of simalar styles will have some of the same shortcommings. Unfortunatly equipment in sports stores isn't set up to to give a good evaluation. I don't know your skills but if you punch hard you will find vibrations on any setup and will likely wear out or break weak equipment. I helped distroy a cheap heavy/speed bag stand at a Fitness First. I find that boards with two arms that come out from the wall and attach to the board forming a square hole pattern where they attach to the board will bounce less from side or X pattern punching. Some strong mounts that attach to a smaller area on the board will bounce on the sides and area over your head. Adjustability means easy to move which is one thing you don't want a board to do while punching. That said make sure that once adjusted it can be locked down solid. Even then the adjustment mechanism may make anoying sounds and lock downs may work loose. Speed Bag 2010 was a good opratunity to try out equipment although not as adjustable as you are looking for. Haven't heard if this matters much but boards with a bigger hole pattern may end up with the holes where some size bags will hit there. Simalar to not wanting the bag to strike the edge of the board which could damage it. I think that only the last mount you show may provide good side to side stability. To bad pictures don't show the top side so you can see how wide the mount to board attachment is. Hope you have a good wall to attach to and just like a wide mount for the board a wide mount to the wall will be sturdier. A drawback with boards that mount closer to the center is you may not be able to drill all the way thru to mount the swivel with nuts, lock washers and bolts vs just screws. Hope this will give you stuff to look out for, I grew up operating and maintaining farm equipment. I used to say in shop class that you did't get any work done if you didn't make noise, hopefully you'll get a system that gives you a good workout and not much wasted energy.
