    New Guy (been tinkering)

Hello everyone, Im new to the forums. I started hitting a speed bag that I made for the last gym i was training at. The gym went belly up a few months later, and i didnt get a chance to take the platform and bag with me. I FINALLY got a new platform and bag for christmas from my girl. Its an IBOX from Balazs. I mounted it outside on the patio, to a solid concrete wall. I immediately noticed that the swivel was VERY noisy, and the drum had a crazy amount of harmonics every time i hit it. sounded like a bass drum. So I attempted to tackle the issues. First, I tried the metal base with the ball bearing and "U" shaped hook with a few modifications. I figured the issue with the swivel was too much metal on metal action. So i removed the U hook, and attached a solid ring instead(the 2 on the left in the picture)(Still wasnt happy). Then I went to the plastic ball swivel, and decided to remove the S hook again in favor of a threaded rod modified with a stainless U welded to the end(last one on the right). I never knew that there was such a thing as a metal ball. Now Im on the hunt. Ive been dieing to get this going. Ive been too broke to take my I-shin class.

So the bag is pretty much my only outlet. I need speed and silence from my swivel.
I hope the posting of this TUBE video isnt out of line. It happens to be a huge part of who i am.(and no, thats not me in the video).

The last one will go in my next ball type swivel. havent really decided which way to go yet, but i figure if i buy the plastic ball, and the metal ball(If i can find it) I can mix and match till i find the perfect balance.

Hey Operator 3, Welcome to the forum.

Metal Ballhooks have been around a long time, but they haven't been easy to find lately. The "Boxing Gear" Watkins metal ball hook
(3rd one down) is about it, but lately reviews have been pretty tough on getting one after ordering.

Most every metal ballhook I've seen has a smooth center hole and won't take a threaded screw or bolt like those shown. Here is a
past post of are a few pics.

To me it sounds like the "noise" is more from your board for some reason. Hope you get it worked out. Loved the I-Shin link by the way. Nice art to say the least.

First, welcome to the forum, second, you're in the right place for any and all advice on baggin' and third, I know what you mean about being to broke to continue with your lesson. I had similar experiences in my martial arts endeavors. Wing Chun, Uechi Ryu, Goju Ryu and Miyama Ryu Jiu Jitsu; I always ran out of cash to continue so I'm stuck at the basics lol. I-Shin looks killer!
