    Thinking about changing swivel

    I found this:

    and

    '

I have the chain link type right now that came w/ my plat form. I read and also saw many saying the above types are better for speed. I seen mostly the plastic ones on youtube videos.

What are your thoughts? Both are $10.95 w/ free shipping

Between the two, go with the one at the bottom. The top one is stamped sheet metal and you will discover that it has a distressingly short lifespan.

Thank you for your suggession. I will purchase that for now. I did like another one which was stainless steel. But I don't think I'd need something like that and the everlast one would serve the purpse for a while. I did read that it cracks, is that an issue I should take into concideration?

I think they are generally long lasting. But it's only 10.00. I suggest buying a back up so you don't bagless if a prob arises with the swiv.
Plastic ball hook are very common and popular....
        But like I said,

Thanks for the idea guys. I'll superglue it in. I also just got the speedbag bible for $20. Hope to learn a lot more from that video.

If you go ahead with the new swivel purchase, please consider the one that Alan suggested to me:

Actually, my (Alan's) favorite swivel choice would be: Boxing Gear's® Speed bag Swivel - Triple chrome plated, precision ball Swivel. Get the one with a shorter hook. I'll take a decent ballhook over any other swivel.

            Third photo down: http://www.fitness-equipment.com/aca...ystems_30.html

I purchased this swivel and it's Superb for us (I had/still have the Everlast Chainlink which resides now in the box the new one came in).

It was funny how they packed it; kind of wrapped it in some brown wrapping, but it's TOP DRAWER. It was about $41.99 all in/tax/shipping - and SMALL HOOK. Plus I ordered the EXTRA BALL so I'll have it when the original wears out.

Maybe not for you, not trying to over-rule other advise or opinion; just vouching for what I consider the 'Swivel of Choice' for me.

hey thanks. yeah i already purchased it earlier. I'll wait a little longer until my plastic one wears off then go ahead and purchase the metal one. I saw it earlier today but that was right after i purchased the plastic one. I also liked this one alot: http://store.titleboxing.com/dps-ez.html

Yes, this is the one I considered, was about to purchase prior to Alan's advise on his preference. I don't know how this swivel performs since I have not acquired or used it (I think I have seen it in some of the vids here). It seems that one of its advantages (vs the swivel I purchased) is that it confines the bag 'loop' into the 'housing', whereas the ballhook does have some 'issues' with the bag 'exiting itself' from the swivel during training (the bag can hop off). I don't find that to be a big problem given the fluidity of movement the swivel provides (Alan has suggested, I think, some heavy-duty tape on the housing that would prevent that, and I will likely resort to that shortly but it happens rarely and we are swapping bags and my little gym spot is kind of a... several guys come over and bring their own bags so we're in the learning phase - nobody asks for the old swivel).

I liked the 'feel I got' from that swivel in that it confined the bag into the 'housing' and then provided alot of 'fluidity'. I came within a few hours of purchasing that one, so I'd like to know how you feel about it - but I will never leave the one we have here now. I may buy a few more for fear they go out of biz. Good Luck with yours.

I have that swivel and it is quiet, fast and very smooth. It works well with the type of bagging that most of the guys do here. I have tried reverse and side punches with this swivel and it does do the job. I am currently using the plastic swivel becasue I like the unrestricted movement of the bag that this swivel provides. The chainlink and the u-bolt are great swivels that I could be happy with. But there is just something special about the simplicity and design of the ballhook that makes me go back to it every time.

Correct. I would avoid the top swivel at all costs. It won't last long.

That page says the mounting plate is extra thick, just how thick is it? And how short is the shorter hook? Can you post some pics?

I still didn't get the one I ordered off ebay but picked up one from sports authority when I saw it was only $9 there. I have mixed feelings about it right now since it feels very slugish. I'll have to use it for a couple more weeks to see if it feels better.....

Hey Tim, I have the same swivel. Check out the pix for answers to your questions. The "gnarly" section screws into the base, so that you are able to access the ball.

As an aside, I tried to order Extra Steel Speed Balls (can I say that?) over a month ago, and didn't receive them. I cancelled the order and just ordered an entire unit last week and extra ball, but I haven't heard anything from them since. Anyone else deal with "Fitness Equipment?" I have in the past, and have no complaints, but recently, orders have been very slow to fill. Anyone?

Sorry for the hijack, now back to your regularly scheduled thread.

Wow, Mike, $42.00! They quoted me ~$37.00 total for the swivel and extra ball. Sales tax in NC must be a b@*!ch!

I have been using the swivel that has been mentioned as "Alan's favorite." I agree with that selection. I also have a chain link swivel as well as the title pro swivel .

                              I would suggest

                              over

                              Although both are good.
