The sound reduced over 50% imo after placing the weights on it.

I've noticed that too. Weight plates clank too much. A bag of sand, gravel, kitty litter, dog food, etc. all work well. Sand works best for me, it's quite compact for the weight (50 lbs) and it's got a large surface area which I think helps deaden the vibration.

I've had to use bungie cords to keep my 50 lb. bag of sand from creeping forward. It makes it a kind of pain to change swivels, though.

I put two 25lb plates and a 30lb bag of sand stuffed in my duffel bag and strapped to the bars of the platform

Tomorrow I plan on taking 2 old pillow cases to the beach to fill up with sand. I might just fill one half way, and double bag it with the second pillow case. That should do the trick.

I 2 double end bag anchors on the top of mine but probably could have gotten away with just one. Not a big difference when I only have one up there. Fits perfect between the framing that attaches to the top of the board.

I'd wrap it in a garbage bag as well. If any sand leaks out it will "rain" off the platform into your eyes with every hit! Ask me how I know about that !!!!

Yeah, I've had the old sand in the eyes bit, too. I don't know why I didn't think putting the sand bag in one, or two trash bags. It would've been a lot cheaper then using a whole roll of duct tape like the idiot I am.

I'll go one better than that- mine is actually a 50lb bag of sand from Home Depot, wrapped in a trashbag, wrapped in another cloth bag, wrapped in duct tape. It has served me well for several years and doesn't leak Any time I move it I tend to drop it on the floor.

At least it won't tear open when you drop it!

To Weight or Not To Weight. That is the question...

I concur. I have noticed that when I hit the bag and it slams against the drum where there's no weight, it doesn't seem to have a strong and true rebound... spread the word... spread the weight.

I like the box o' books idea. I have an old set of Encyclopedia Britannica that haven't been cracked open in years. May as well put them to good use, eh?

Well, here's my (hubby's) solution to minimizing vibration and improving bag rebound...

This is what sits on top of my platform.

It's a 36-lb. (16 kg) box of mudding compound from Lowe's Home Improvement store– for about $8. I have one box of it sort of wedged under the welded rebar that runs from the edge of the drum up to the big 4"x4" steel post. I really need a couple more up there, as I surmise that the better your weight distribution, the better bag rebound…

The mudding compound (consistency of thick glue) comes sealed in a plastic bag and packaged inside a cardboard box. Because of its consistency, I'm thinking that it might better absorb the impact of the rebounding of the bag as it strikes the drum, thus minimizing vibration.

                      ...
