New To Forum - Considering New Swivel?

Hi, All. My name is Mike and I live in NC. I'm 46 and have built a new workout gym in my garage (would be glad to show pix).

I created my own Speed Bag mount using 3/sandwich MDF board, painted black with 5 coats of poly. I have an older Everlast bag that has alot of miles left on it and just recently purshased a Title bag which I am quite pleased with (also got two Mex-double end bags with anchors from Title and am quite pleased with their quality - have Everlast D/E bag, too, with no complaints.

I have the EVERLAST CHAIN SWIVEL that is depicted on, I think it's Alan (or Tim's, please excuse me) Swivel Link Page. I get errant bounces off this style of swivel (and some of it is surely due to my own failure at proper execution), but I am interested in obtaining a NEW SWIVEL and understand that Alan's second favorite swivel is this one: http://store.titleboxing.com/dps-ez.html

Is there a more favorite swivel than this one (which looks good to me). I am going to try to add this to a pending order over the weekend to Title to save on shipping, if possible, so any input/advice on the very best swivel would be greatly appreciated.

Thank You for creating this forum and inviting other folks to join in with the discussion. I have found many of the threads (those I've been able to read thus far) to be very informative and motivational. I am interested in developing my speed bag skills and happy to have found this site and appreciate the opportunity to join in discussion with y'all.

    Thanks,
    Mike

Actually, my (Alan's) favorite swivel choice would be: Boxing Gear's® Speed bag Swivel - Triple chrome plated, precision ball Swivel. Get the one with a shorter hook. I'll take a decent ballhook over any other swivel.

Will the Boxing Gear ball swivel fit the same holes as the Everlast chain swivel?

I have bought two chain swivels (Everlast) now, and I can't seem to get decent rebounds with it. It starts to turn and has a mind of its own. Yes, you are all asking why I bought the second one. I have no excuses.

I have used older chain swivels and not had a problem, but it seems the new swivels give me trouble.

Do I just need more practice? Should I air down the bag some? I will order one of these ball swivels, but in the meantime I am stuck using the chain swivel until I get back onshore. Also, the chain swivel seems very susceptible to vibration. It seems the swivel itself vibrates.

Great question. I don't have one so I'm not sure, but the general trend is that the different manufacturers rarely standardize their hole layouts

Do I just need more practice?
A little practice can do wonders. Don't give up on any equipment too quick. Give it at least 2 weeks of daily practice. If it's still not better, maybe it is the swivel. The chance of getting two different bad swivels is unlikely, is the platform loose ?

Can you post video? We can give you pointers...

Ok, well, I guess I should have tried this earlier, but I was a little concerned about putting loose weight plates on top of the speed bag drum.

Anyways, I did that and it helped. It seems the Everlast Chain Swivel doesn't like vibration at all. Slightest vibration makes it turn. I think the design of the bearing and swivel bit just has too much play in it so that once it starts to vibrate, it tends to want to rotate. Also, I let a little air out of the bag. That helped too.

The weight room on these construction boats aren't usually that great. On this particular boat I am on, the workout equipment is in the generator room (old generator room, the generators are gone, but all the other machinery is still there). The speed bag setups are usually made by welders, that are great welders, but not the best at structural design. This particular setup is just two angle iron legs, welded to the ground with a two angle beams holding the drum.

            Oh well, lessons learned. haha.
