New to the Boards - Ques and Props

    Hey guys,

I'm new to the boards but have been speedbaggin' for about 2 months now. I love it! However, I do get the stink eye quite often when I take over the bag at my gym and so.. I've decided to get my own!

I'd like to put it in my backyard and cover it when not in use. Has anyone had any problems with an outside set up?

Also, I still have to get the equipment and would love any advice. I like to throw lots of elbows make my movements as dynamic as possible (I know it takes away from speed but I love the conditioning ). I would like to keep the price under $150. Also, what swivels do you recommend for smooth rebounds and room for loads of movement (probably one that hangs lower?).

Anyway, thanks Tim for making this site and thank you Alan for the speed bag bible and, well, all of your continued dedication. Also, Ruffo, I love the utube vids man, keep em coming. I showed a couple girls your skills and if your single I got some numbers for you And speedbagscissorhands (sp?), you're hilarious dude. You live right near my place in deal, NJ. Maybe I'll show you some moves sometime

thanks again and sorry for the huge post!

    Hi BenzDo and welcome.

I can't help much with your outside setup, for I don't have a lot of experience with those, but I think some members here have outside setups. You can get a decent setup for under $150.00. There are a few solid wall setups that are under that price, but it may depend on how your going to set it up. Scissorhands has his in a tree, and I think skunk has a tree setup also. Actually I think he has units in his closets and bathrooms also. He may even have one in the shower, but that's just a rumor.

Any decent swivel, chainlink, U-bar or ballhook will work for your purposes. It sounds like you might want to use a slightly larger bag (7x10 or 8x11) and you can get a good quality bag here.

Good luck and I bet some others will jump in with some outdoor suggestions. Hey, go visit Scissorhands and get "spoofed". By the way, he has some great baggin' skills, so you might get a few tips from him.

Welcome! Can't beat the convenience of having your own platform. Makes it a lot easier to fit in a 5 minute workout, if that's all the time you have to spare.

I'd like to put it in my backyard and cover it when not in use. Has anyone had any problems with an outside set up?
Honestly I think it will be fine, the only suggestion I would make is to use a plastic ball hook swivel to minimize chances of rust.

Also, I still have to get the equipment and would love any advice. I like to throw lots of elbows make my movements as dynamic as possible (I know it takes away from speed but I love the conditioning ). I would like to keep the price under $150. If I had $150 to spend on a speed bag platform, I'd get this model, no doubt. I've got to hand it to Everlast, they hit the ball out of the park with this one. Great price and it's a very capable piece of equipment - solid and adjustable height.

Trusted by champions since 1910. Boxing gloves, punching bags, training apparel & more – built to last.

I can't speak to how well it will hold up outdoors though.

Hi Benzdo and welcome! I have to agree with Tim. this is the exact platform that I have in my garage. I added a 30lb bag of sand on top and I couldn't be happier. This particular model is always going on sale. I got mine for $139.00, I've seen it for $119.00 also. As far as swivels, most folks here swear by the plastic ball hook which you can get for about $10.00. I intend to replace mine eventually. At the moment I have this model which has worked excellent for me and was only $20.00. I hope this was also helpful.

I would not put any store-bought platform outside.
Yea, it seems like inside is best to avoid the elements and lessen the noise for the neighbors. I'm going to put it up in my garage, which is sorta the best of both worlds. Thanks.

I picked up the everlast setup recommended and bought a title 7x10. The everlast with the 15% off promo and free shipping is still applicable until September 15th. But they're in back order of the particular model... and so the wait begins!! I've been quoted 3 weeks, now I just gotta keep it together
