Bagless in Seattle (well actually in Canada)

As far as building speed/accuracy and accuracy/endurance, I've never found anything quite like bagging, but my problem is that I currently have no bag, and don't train in a gym. I've switched over to Kung Fu training (Xing Yi) but I definitely want to keep up what mediocre boxing skills I had developed over the years, and improve on them if I can.

My question: Are there any veterans here who can offer any suggestions on how to get similar training results from shadow boxing as one might hope to achieve from hitting the speedbag? I really need to brush up on keeping my punches relaxed until the point of impact as well as (re)build my speed and precision.

In any case, thanks in advance for any advice you can offer.

    Welcome, oh Bagless Grasshopper.....

One way might be to simply move your hands like you are hitting the speed bag, only without the bag. I call it "air punching" or probably "air bagging". There is a lot more information about "speed" training and "shadow boxing" on the Ross Training Forum, which is a great forum also. Here are a few links

    Hope these help.

Hello DAVID, If you have someone else to train with I might recommend PUNCH MITS. Great for building speed and accuracy. Like I said though its tough unless you have someone to "catch" for you......You can pick up decent punch mitts fairly cheap nowadays, but you can also catch with bare hands to work on speed, you just can't punch as hard.......Good Luck!!!
