Is this Swivel any good? (pics)

I live in Australia and so far cannot find the Everlast plastic s-hook swivel anywhere... and if i buy it online they want to charge me 40 bux postage!!

So i found this one thats quite cheap, i think around $12.00:

The brand is Maddison, as you can see it doesnt have a ball thingy, but rather a dish shape thingy, wouldnt that create up and down movement? i was thinking that maybe i could remove that little dish part and replace it with a plastic ball of some sort?

    cheers!

This is a stamped body swivel. They are prone to wearing out around the hole prematurely, causing the hook (and bag) to go flying. My advice is not to purchase this style of swivel.

Trade a swivel of that style for a brushpile.

      then burn the brush pile.

Those are definitely not durable swivels, I've seen some up close (or similar at least)... but on the other hand , bagging with a crappy swivel is better than no bagging at all!

thanks for the replies guys, how long do you reckon this swivel would last if i use it 3 times a week for 45 minutes a time?

or maybe i could coat the inner part of the hole, where the little dish part touches, with some sort of plastic or nylon?

Like Tim said, any baggin' is good baggin'.

I'd grab it and start baggin' ASAP. I'd then get on ebay for Australia and start the swivel hunt. I'd also hope for a response from Roc Stone. He is a Forum member and I thought he was down under. I'd also look in your local papers that present ads of people selling stuff. Kind of like our version of the Recycler or Craig's List. Someone down there has got to know something about an Everlast swivel or at least a better swivel....

At least with the pictured swivel, you will only be "down under" and not "down and out under!" Hahahaha.......

And please fill us in on your avatar! Clown baggin'???? A new trend?

Wait..I just looked at your pics again. There is a big 'ol Everlast heavy bag behind you. And they don't have any Everlast swivels? Can you tell the store to order up a bunch with their next shipment? This can't be that impossible where you have to only use a crappy swivel....

                  How do folks!

I had all of the same problems, and in the end I did have to submit to cost in order to gat any of the noted B/H swivels. I did however stumble across this watkins type 'all metal' B/H swivel made by a mob called Punch, and after I had it altered (shortening the stem of the hook) it worked quite well. Yeerrrbdahhh yeerrrbdahhh So well in fact I gave it to my local Y hoping they would install it on one of their four platforms but alas they didn't.

I think Punch are located somewhere in Sydney, but I know they merchandise to retail Co.'s, so you'd have to find an outlet. I do know there's one here at Rockdale.

Heck, They still got my one at the Y, I might just make an inquiry about that. They never used it because at that stage they had just received their shipment of new everlast bags and ass previously discussed, there's no way of securing a bag to a B/H swivel so's thieves can't steal them. So they continue to use their Jim Bradley swivels, which are in fact a faster swivel with a short trapeez type arm which supports the loop, just not so good on the SDP's. So this is what I started with, but I used a bow shackle instead of the trapeez arm and found this to be a lot better. This worked fine for learning all the front punches and elbows.

Yeerrrbdahhh yeerrrbdahhh! Now I don't want to advocate BS but here's how I got mine from a department store. Tell em you bought the six piece everlast set from another store.
"The swivel broke, can you replace it?"
                  "Please."
"You do sell replacements for these things don't you?"

If I can be of any more help, just let me know.

PS. Ordering from the west coast is cheaper postage than central or east coast US

I hear that! If you want one shipped to you and we can do it for less than what Everlast charges, I will. All in the name of Baggin' and Cool Karma! "What comes around, bags around!!!!"

                    YEAH!!

All the stores around me have the plastic ball hook swivel available. I think it's about 10-12 dollars.

i just had a look on the punch site, they only had 2 swivels on there that i could see: http://www.punchequipment.com/ (under punch balls)

Stuff this plastic s hook swivel, it's to much trouble... maybe you could recommend me a swivel i cant readily get in Australia thats good for beginners?

thanks for all the help guys, i'll hold off on getting one sent from overseas for a while because after the postage and all it will probably be cheaper (and easier) to just get a more expensive one from here.... just not sure which one...

                      thanks!!!!!

                        Hey Brake

Since everyone is in a bagnanimous mood today.......

I have swivel that you can have, see pics. If you want it, it's yours. You just need the screws to hold it in place and a cotter pin (lost it) to hold the bolt in place.) Just PM me your address and I'll find out how much it costs to ship it to you. If you're content with paying the freight, I'll ship it right out.

This is the exact swivel. I bought it about a year ago and only used it for a month.

hey, thanks so much for that offer, but litterally the day u posted this i took Roc Stone's advice and got my grubby little hands on an everlast plastic s-hook swivel!! awesome.... thanks very much for the extremely generous offer though!!!

all i need to do now is glue the hook to the ball using super glue, right?

                              Yeerbadahhh yeerrbadahhh!

How did you procure it? Did you sell them that story?

Nice work. What did you end up paying?

So now that you have the plastic B/H swivel, you're probably wanna upgrade it by using the metal ball out of tha metal B/H swivel. Exchange the plastic ball for the metal ball and then you will have a premium swivel.

On another note, you may like to try a chain link swivel for something different. If you do have a problem with the B/H swivel I recommend you try one of these. I believe Jim Bradley supply them. They are a very smooth running swivel and take little or no effort to keep them going and are a bit more forgiving than the B/H.

                              Have fun.

                              Make us a video.

                              Thats all folks

P.S. You're probably gonna have to glue the eye bolt into the plastic ball. After a while they tend to screw themselves out and as soon as it happens the 1st time it's always gonna happen.
