To glove or not to glove, that is the question: http://www.speedbagforum.com/forums/...read.php?t=752

Gloves are good for a beginner, keeps the hands from giving out before the spirit does. Once you toughen up the knuckles and skin in general you will probably find you can hit barehanded, as many of us do.

    How much air: http://www.speedbagforum.com/forums/...read.php?t=842

(In a nutshell, somewhere in the neighborhood of 4 psi is right, but you don't need to measure it, the bag should have a amount of give to it where you can push it in with your thumbs). IT SHOULD NOT HURT TO HIT THE BAG! If it feels like you are punching a rock , that's too much air.

I agree with Tim that Bare hand is probably the way to go with speed bag. But if you're pounding heavy bags I suggest wrapping your hands and using quality heavy bag gloves. Lots of people hit the speed bag with wraps on, and they are fine, just a pain for many people to keep on.

I'm no expert, but I just use lifting gloves, I've found I don't really need any padding, just a little something in between my hands and the bag to keep the the seams from straching my hands up, and gives freedom of motion.

After a while the seams will get beat down close to flat and not be a problem. One of the interesting things about beating the seams flat is it really shows the circumference of your fist contacts. There should be untouched seam above and below the flat part.
