    large speed bag

This may be an odd question...

I need to find a large speed bag for work. We need to fill it with 100lbs of lead shot and the largest bag we have found (14" x 9") will not hold that amount.

I think I may have found a bigger one here...

But I wanted to see if anyone with better knowledge may know of a source for them.

    Thanks!

You may want to look at Gensport in Quebec. They offer large striking bags. Can we ask why you want to put a 100# of lead shot in one?

May I suggest buying a hot air balloon and turning it upside down.

I would really like to see someone work one one of those. I can't imagine how you could keep your distance and work on control and not pound the bag to maintain a steady rhythm.
Maybe used purely for the fitness and mounted higher than chin-level?

In my experience, you can, it's that you don't achieve the speed as you do with the smaller bags. It sure gives you one heck of an upper body workout tho. While I personally prefer the larger bags, the smallest I have is a teardrop Ringside 6x9. Currently the largest are two Everlast 15x10's (#4205).

Exactly. Sometimes going "fast" is not the point, but going as powerfully and fast as the bag will let you. Going really fast on a small bag does not give you the power workout as going hard and a bit slower on these big bags. The larger bag is "heavier" with more resistance and a longer rebound arc, taking more force to go from front board to back board contact. Going full out on one of these for 2-3 or so minutes is a very physical workout, and and I think pumps the arms and shoulders harder than going fast on a smaller bag.

That is the beauty of bag sizes and air inflation from a slower "mushy" to an over inflated hard ball. You can use these to modify your workout, targeting specific benefits or work out styles. Learn to modify your workouts and you'll find that speed bag is not always about speed. That is why I emphasize the term "control" bag, not necessarily "speed" bag.

The only drawback to big bags is the requirement of a sturdy set up and a board large and heavy enough to take the pounding. And It will be a pounding.

                          (* hey dutch, I haven't seen a 4205 in a while)

The largest bag I have is the Title 10 x 12. I made a special platform for it because how my Everlast platform is adjusted, the large bag would hit the inner "L" corner of the wall L-brackets. Plus, the bag on its homemade platform gets more platform meat to rebound off of compared to the Everlast.

You can really do some hard swinging at the 10 x 12 and that's why I include it as part of the workout. Just don't get too close to it or you'll see what a large bag feels like doing an upper cut in your nose or glasses. Don't ask me how I know that.

That ring platform in that catalog was the first ring I used many years ago when I started hitting the bag. I won it in a bet. Darn, sure wish I didn't somehow lose it through my many moves.

I'm confused about these bag sizes that show 16" lengths, etc. It appears that the Title 10 x 12 has the bag itself measuring 12" long, and then the loop adds another 2" where the swivel hook attached. So if a bag has a long loop or adjustable loop, are they giving the length from the top of the loop to the bag's bottom, or just the bag itself not including the loop?

Just for fun, I wouldn't mind having a true bag size of 14" long.

Now I have to make one of those rotating ball stands on page 30 of the catalog. That could turn out to be interesting. Rather than going off rebounds, you go off rotation timing by the low bar hit to the upper bar hit.

And while we're on the subject of big bag size, if I have a 10 x 12 bag with a full tear drop shape, and a bag says it is 16" long, I'd want to know the diameter and see the shape of the tear drop. What I'd be looking for is total mass increasing, not just the length. Or if it says a 10" diameter and yet is very narrow until it reaches that 10" diameter, there's a lot of mass lost in that narrow length.

Granted, the longer length is giving a bigger fulcrum, but I might as well just add to the loop length of the 10 x 12 then.

There, I just saved myself some money.
