    Finally got the Everlast platform

My Everlast adjustable platform arrived and I'm stoked to get it up on the wall and get back to the business of speed bagging. It's taken some time but I'm almost back in the saddle woohoo! Also got three of the Heavy Grips hand grippers 150#, 200# and 250#. Can't close the 250# but I get a real good workout from the 150 and 200. Anybody else use these?

    Hey Metaldad,

Congrats on your new setup. New toys are such a gas eh. On the grippers I have the "Trainer", the # 1 and the # 2 from Ironmind. I can close the Trainer and can get the # 1 to within about a sixteenth and the # 2 a little past halfway. I'm gonna pull the senior citizen card. LOL. Check out Ironmind enterprises
at ironmind.com. type in Captains of Crush.

I've checked them out before. I almost bought a set of the Captains of Crush. I found the three that I have on Ebay at a pretty good price.

Is that the new Everlast adjustable one? I saw one of those at Sports Authority and it looked real nice. Nice thick rebound board.

Hey Bruce. Here's some pics of the everlast adjustable platform I bought about a month ago. I'm guessing it's that same as metaldad's.

I think I remember the docs saying it has 8 inches of adjustment. The adjustments consist of a large detent pin on the side with holes about every inch and 4 knobs to secure the rails in place. Once you crank down all the knobs, it's a very solid rig.

Hah, that bag, a 4210, looks stinkin huge and it is. But it's gotten me up and running to where I can do triplet front straight and circle punches until I wear out with some doubles thrown in. Just starting to work on reverse and side punches and sloooow fist rolls. I just ordered a 9x6 bag. Should be fun to see if I can keep up with it.

Wow, I just saw that setup this past weekend at a local sports store for $99.

Question: Most of us hit a variety of size bags on one platform and don't think twice about needing to adjust the height. So I can understand the need for adjustment when different size people are using it, but can't justify it for one person. What am I missing? Or, who cares what I'm missing just as long as it makes people happy?

As a friend of mine once said, "It's not a question of need, it's a question of want." What man is not "guilty" of that.

You are not really missing anything, except the ability to adjust any size bag to the correct height for YOU. No matter the bag size, or the user, you want the belly of the bag adjusted to the correct height to make passing the fists through as optimum as possible.

Now for a single user who only uses a couple of bag sizes, you don't need a more expensive highly adjustable board. You could probably by with a non-adjustable board, and set the height for the LARGEST bag you will use ( say 11x8), and then when you change to a smaller bag (8x5 - which raises the belly up higher...) you could use a small platform or adjustable stepping bench to raise yourself up a bit.

I used this system myself for many years, using a board set for my 11x8 bag and standing on a platform for my 9x6 and 8x5.

Yeah, I paid $119 for it, "opened box" at a local sports store. When I first decided to install a bag, I was planning on building a ceiling-mounted platform in my dirt-floor basement. I looked around at the local Lowes and Home Depots because I remembered seeing some thick, round table-tops I thought might make a good platform. But on examination, they all all seemed to be made of butt-jointed pine pieces. Some were already separating on the shelves so I really didn't think they'd hold up to a speedbag. So once I saw this platform on display for just a little more than what I'd pay in materials to build my own, my ideas for rolling my own went out the window. Took me about 30 minutes to hang and half of that was spent drilling the holes in that 90-year old masonry.

Also, since my house is an old bungalow with many original plaster walls, I'm so glad I didn't go with the ceiling-mounted (floor of the house) setup. I totally underestimated the force and vibration punching a speedbag creates. Luckily, I don't think I'll have any problems with that masonry pillar anytime soon. (Knock on wood!)

I think this platform is a good option for anyone wanting a solid, easy-to-mount platform. For me, the adjustability was just a bonus, especially since I'm brand new to this and wasn't sure exactly how high I needed the bag to hang. I just ball-parked the anchor-height and was able to fine-tune the bag height later.

Speedbag, I just checked my two platform heights. One is made just for my big 12 x 10 title and the belly is correct. The other I change between my Turbo 10 x 7 and the small Title 8 x 5. The 8 x 5 belly is correct and the Turbo is low, but since I only do forward punching on them and no fancy stuff like you do, I guess I never noticed any awkwardness to the low belly but I have no doubt that it would be nicer for punching with the Turbo belly at the right height as you said.

My Title 9 x 6 you autographed is proudly still hanging on the wall above my desk.

Jofo, it would be interesting to see how the vibration affect is with your platform remaining "naked" vs having a sand bag on top of the platform. That is the only disadvantage I could think of with an adjustable platform is it is not practical to add weight on top of it, but it may not be really needed.

I noticed this as well, I had to make a flag stand for cub scouts, and picked up the 18" round from Lowes, and there is a gap between two of the pieces near the edge

Yes that is the exact same model platform that I have. I had to get it mail order 'cuz Dick's and Sport's Authority here in the Chicago area don't carry them. It is adjustable and I had to reinforce mine as I'm not mounted to a brick wall like Jofo Baggin. Other than that a factory defect that doesn't allow for me to reach the hightest adjustment, I'm 99.9% satisfied with it. If you end up with one Bruce M, you won't be disappointed

Well proportioned! And also, the board seems very thick(I guess it's about 1.8 inch) and strong.
I used to play a set with bad design. The chain swivel got stuck easily. The board is so small that the belly of bag run out of it.The rebound is erratical.
                            Very bad feeling.

That big Red Everlast 4210 11x8 bag is a whopper. It's the same bag I used in All the technique pictures you see on my website and in the book. I still have it, which is saying something cause the pictures were taken in 1993 and 1994. It bottom extends slightly past the edge of a 24 inch board, but the belly still contacts the wood. Mine is still a working bag and I let my grandkids punch on it occassionally.
