    Question on changing swivels

    Hi Everyone,

I have an everlast heavybag and speedbag stand that came equiped with a chain link swivel. Today I purchased an 's' hook with plastic ball (everlast) and attempted to attach and it doesn't fit. Naturally, when I asked the kid @ Dick's if it would fit, he more than assured me it would. Would it be worth 'gutting' the chain link swivel to see if the ball and hook would fit into the metal 'home'? I am considering this, kind of like Skunk's gutting of his swivel. I have a couple of concerns though. First, I would have to break the outer plastic lining on the 's' hook to release the ball and hook and second, i'm not sure if the actual 's' hook would fit through the metal home's hole. I really hope I am making sense here, for it is very frustrating. The chain link is starting to irritate me a bit and would like to upgrade my bagging. If I don't gut the chain link, do they make bigger attachments so it does fit on the stand I have?

Thanks - this forum is such a great help!

I'd think you'd be able to drill new holes on the platform. I have three sets of holes on my platform, but I think I'm about at the limit. It's too bad there isn't more standardization with swivels.

Not really. You can unscrew the metal shank from the ball, then put the ball inside the new housing and * screw it back in. *be sure and fill the hole and cover the shank screws with superglue to keep it from coming out after 100-200 punches.

But the circular plastic ball is more circular and larger than a most metal balls I have seen, (which is a lot), and I have not had any luck fitting the plastic ball in metal housings. Although I have NOT tried putting it inside a deconstructed everlast chainlink swivel, for I only have one old school chainlink and don't want to ruin it. It may work.

You can drill other alignment holes in your board but I would create the first set in the middle of your other holes. Keep the holes as far away from each other as possible. But most swivel bases should match from the same company. IF you have an everlast chainlink, I'd be very surprised that the everlast plastic base did not align to the pre-drilled holes. I have never had that problem within the same company. I'm not saying it isn't possible, I just have not experienced that. I have had mismatches between companies and have redrilled swivel holes several times on different boards.

      Good luck. Swivel problems suck.

      Good luck.

thank you, so much for the input. what i ended up doing was drilling extra holes into the board. took a few tries but finally got it. this is my first experience with the 's' hook and i love it. much better than the chain link swivel. welcome to the real world of speedbagging, huh??

..well, at least the swivel won't influence your rebound. Usually.

but on days when it all goes away, it is still permissable to blame the swivel.
