    Selling items on ebay!

I am selling a boxing set that includes a ringside heavy-duty platform, two speedbags, a chainlink and a plastic swivel, speedbag gloves, and two heavy bag gloves, one of which is a pair of weighted gloves.

Hey riqal, is it canceled because you found a buyer?

no because at first we thought it would cost about $20 to ship, but UPS later said it would be $60. I don't understand why they want that much to ship it!

I paid $20 shipping about two years ago for that platform. It was shipped UPS then. Now, they want three times that. Gas prices have not tripled in the past two years.
I recently ordered a 50 lb heavy bag from Title, and the shipping charge was less than $17. So I am wondering how is it possible that I can order a 50lb item and pay less than $17 in shipping, but if I want to sell an item on ebay that weighs about the same, it costs $60 to ship?

Businesses pay different rates than over-the-counter sales for several reasons: volume, credit check, systems in place to minimize the time UPS must spend on processing each shipment, etc.

One big thing to pay attention to is that many UPS outlets are franchises not owned by UPS. They wear UPS uniforms and have "UPS" on everything, but they are not really UPS. In order to make up for the UPS franchise fees, they have to charge a mark-up in addition to UPS shipping fees, making UPS service centers the location of choice for low prices.

So then should I arrange for shipping with a UPS owned service center in my town - if one exists?

I just spoke with a representative at a UPS owned service center. Shipping to Hickory Hills, Il is $27.48. Shipping to Beverly Hills is about $54 - just $6 cheaper than what the UPS store wanted for shipping to Bev Hills. I think I'll just keep the platform and list some stuff that can be shipped US postal service in a much smaller box.

Here is one thing that I am currently listing. Go back to speedbag discussions and read what I wrote about it.
