    What do you think?

WOW. There is a a lot of information in this forum! I've been reading as much as I can. I would like to add the speed bag to my workout. Long ago I hit a speed bag in a gym and caught on fairly well. I would like to have one at the house.

What do you think of this platform?

At Ringside, we are serious about fight sports, especially boxing and MMA. We offer the best prices on boxing equipment in addition to videos, tutorials, and guides. Low-cost shipping guaranteed!

Is the swivel on this OK? If not, would you recommend this? http://www.ringside.com/DETAIL.ASPX?ID=24601

As for the bags, what do you recommend?

Welcome. There are many great people on this forum: Speedbag, Tim, SpeedBagSkunk, to name a few. I'm sure they'll chime in later.

There are quite a few threads about platform, bag, glove, and swivel recommendations/reviews. They can be found using the search feature. I'm a rookie to this forum and lack the experience of others, so I hesitate to offer suggestions.

I'm only into this for about 2 months and found this forum to be a great place for help. Like you, I used to fool around with the speed bag years ago. But this type of hitting is new to me. AND addicting too.

Good luck and welcome aboard. Biff

The reason I chose that platform is because I want to be able to adjust it for other family members. Plus the $199 strike through to $99 makes it look like I'm getting it on sale. I don't want to bust the bank; however, I know that you get what you pay for.

I think I will go with the 6x9 Top Contender bag. It looks like it would be a good beginner bag. http://www.ringside.com/DETAIL.ASPX?ID=25131

I'm still in the air with the swivel.

The Board and Bag are fine. As for a swivel, I would suggest the Boxing Gear's® Speed bag ball hook Swivel. All metal.

Other swivels will work but my personal preference is a ball hook and the metal model is less trouble than the plastic ball hook.

I saw where the ball hook (metal) seems to be the choice for many in this forum. From what I gather, this looks like it would be better for the advanced hitter. I think I would be all over the place with it. Since I'm a beginner, would you still recommend that? I figured back and forth on one plane would be the best.

Yes, I would still recommend that. If your rebounds are "all over the place" then it is a result of your swing and fist placement on the bag. For punching from the front or front-to-back, most of the swivels, including the ballhook, will do fine. If you make clean contact at the right spot, your rebounds will be fine.
