I contacted the seller because of my curiosity after looking at your post. He said that there are 4 holes which the chain slips through and a u shaped clip which supports the chain from the inside. Kind of a strange arrangement. I don't see how the bag would rotate if this is so. He said that he will post more photo's displaying the underside of the swivel. Thanks for another interesting post.

You're welcome. Dutchman, what's your idea about the age of that bag ?

The valve is in the bottom, so it's a later model, probably no older than the very late 1930's but probably the immediate post WWII era.
