    Swivel Extension

Inspire by BillyMack, I took two S-hooks and added them to my pro swivel. The result was a slower more erratic rebound that forced me to extend my punches to reach the bag. Due to this added effect my punches were much harder and the workout was more intense than precise. I loved it, thanks for the idea BillyMack!

I try my trapping with two S-hooks added to the swivel, ala BillyMack. The result was a combination speedbag/maizebag.

cool video. Your targeting ability is pretty amazing. With the bag swinging so irratically, you rarely mis-hit. Your timing and hand eye coordination is really impressive.

Glad I don't have to meet you in the ring. You don't miss much.

          Dropping bows

Touche! I like the way your setup gives you time to load up on the elbows, very clean delivery. I will try to respond but seeing that my setup is shorter and a bit more erratic, I'll probably attempt to trap the bows somehow instead of rebounding. Thanks for responding.

            elbows only

Here's my version of the bows.

This one's for the Billy of the Mack. I attempt elbows on my speedbag with an extended swivel.

Yeah, there is an unspoken speed bag rule: It's not the size of your bag or board, but the quality of the rebound.....

                            Dien's Martial Arts

I recently received and email about swivels from a Dien's Martial Arts in Eureka Missouri that is very appropriate for this thread:

" We use speed bags attached to a line hanging from the ceiling for TKD practice. The line is adjusted using a sailboat racing cam cleat to allowing it to be adjusted to any height. The speed bag is allowed to swing freely and rebound off the ceiling in any direction and any pattern (without an attached bungy cord as is used with double ended boxing bags). This small bag set-up allows students to practice their standing, jumping, rotating (180, 360 etc) and running jump techniques, and learn the importance of timing, distance, speed, etc. It really gets interesting when our advanced color belts and black belts form a circle and execute their kicks without the bag stopping - like 360 jump wheel kicks (without the hook). We also use Heavy 100lbs bags for resistance training of kicking and striking techniques, and often have the heavy bags swinging and moving for more advanced training.

Click here for a picture of Dien's Martial Arts Small Bag Training.

.... I have had to over-engineer the attachments and retrofit industrial quality hardware (chains, swivels, hooks, links, etc) to get the durability and rotating performance needed for our Martial Arts classes bag work. I find that sailboat stainless steel hardward (from West Marine or others) is great for this kind of very high breaking strength and low friction commercial use set-ups, and has more advanced solutions like rotating shackles with integrated quick release pins, instead of using multiple links, S-hooks and pins with cotter keys, etc. We also go through commercial grade heavy bags and speed bags on a regular basis due to the power generated from the advanced kicking techinques - like running jump side snap kicks.
                            "

Obviously, these fine folks take the speed bag very seriously as a kicking target using an extended swivel setup. ( look at the size of that rebound board!)

Great Job, Dien's for promoting speed bag useage and safety within martial arts training!
