    Aussie women bagging

You might recall when Michael J. Crocodile Dundee said:

    "That's not a knife"..."THAT'S A KNIFE"

Or as these two Australian gals might say, "THAT'S A SPEED BAG":

Ok, Dutchman, what size is that one????

          Alan!

Ellie-May Clamphart eat your heart out!

          Shikes!

Where did you dig that up from Paranday? Just so happens i been checkin out some Vaudeville clips this morning myself. Maybe I should start lookin in my own backyard first, I'll leave those burlesque dancers to you guys. Mata Hari is a different story tho

Those legs look like they'd pack some power as well.

I had an ex from Queensland once, she was a red head too (maroon is the state colour up there), in fact the only time I been to the land of queens was with her. They are a different breed up there and I'm pretty sure Deano would vouch for that. All hell breaks loose when we play them in rugby league. But Kid Brunell also came from Queensland too.

In the land of queens back in those day the suger cane industry was really big as well as bannana plantations.

Just look at those beautiful healthy ladies.

That appears to be another swivel there too, looks like we might have had a speed bag porch back then as well

          Great find Paranday. Cheers.

Noticed that, too. "The moment we stop looking is the moment we're dead." - Al Pacino in Scent of a Woman.

And that's why I posted it. It's proof that Australia adopted the bag early. And that you did it in your own way. And you had a speed bag porch long before Skunk!

              Much obliged Paranday.

              Again, great find.

I'd say from the looks of things they're probably sisters, maybe twins even (guessing).

Great movie too(Scent of a Woman)

That giant bag was no fluke. Here's another Aussie bagging photo, dated 1910. It's not super clear, but check out the boy punching the huge bag, and just where is that bag hanging? (Haha, is it just me, or is the woman to the right of the boy wearing a bucket on her head?)

An outstanding find! I love old pictures like this, they have so much to tell.

Your right the lady has a bucket on her head. So what kind of place would this have been? Their home maybe? I can see it says 'Bush hut'. Still no idea! I like the bloke on the roof, he's reducing vibration for that super size speed bag. And is that an army officer in the garden?

That picture does say a lot.

In my opinion there does not appear to be enough evidence to say that that is a speed bag tho. I'm guessing 'maze' ball/bag, or something like that

                        Not sure.

But I sure o like the pic.

As for the woman with the bucket on her head, well I did warn you about the land of queens.

I enlarged the photo as much as I could, and it appears that it's a grain sack. Not the first time that this conversion was done. As far as the first pic, the bag is at least 18-20" long, belly is in the 15-16" range I'd say. Yeah, it's a biggun.

Both of your comments are helpful regarding that second photo. The boy is giving it a good pop whatever it is.

As for the two women, it appears that bag is attached a much shorter distance below the board than what I've seen in many other photos from that era. For comparison, below is an early image from the USA. Jack O'Keefe in 1904 has a similar sized and shaped bag, but look at the length of rope on the bag he's using. Makes for a different punching experience.

(By the way, the Australian women's names are Booka and Chris Durack, they were sisters. Don't cross Booka or Chris is my advice, haha.)

He UK, The Buckethead is a dead giveaway. Obviously she is a distant relative of The Coneheads, natives of the planet Remulak, who found themselves stranded on Earth. When questioned about their strange behavior, they inevitably replied that they were "from Remula, a small town in France".

I should think you have seen some of the few remaining Coneheads tooling around in England ??

I heard some of them or their distance relatives may have gotten to Australia. I guess this is proof.....
