dax, I am not an expert but I think the purpose of trapping is to develop speed, timing and control of your punches (I think the control part might be the most important).

How is the action on the everlast 6x4 that u got for Xmas?

I like the everlast bag a lot. I wish the seams were a little easier on the hands, but I am sure that will go away eventually.

I think the best way put was by Alan himself on the trapping style: While drumming is ear driven and rhythmic trapping is more eye driven and timing oriented... I hope I explained that correctly

Absolutely. It takes precise timing and placement to trap a bouncy bag, and it is even harder (IMO) to "kill the bounce" and make it sound like a "slam", with little rebound, but the bag does not stop.

When we hit the bag "normally", the bag is about half-way between the board and hanging straight, and the bag is normally going in the opposite direction than the hand. The bag and hand are traveling toward each other. They collide and the bag recoils in the other direction, causing a rebound.
In trapping, the hand is normally going in the same direction as the bag, or catches the bag just as it comes off the board. there is a slamming sound, and the bag does not bounce much.

I really admire the way eltorohmp can do that with straight punches, hooks and uppercuts, smashing the bag, yet notice it has little rebound afterward. And he does that while moving and weaving, which makes it all the harder. It takes timing and practice to do this continuously at will. I think it is a difficult style to use and he is a master at it.

i do a little "trapping: myself after seeing eltorohmp doing it the first time. just a tip if you are going to try it WEAR GLOVES! it hurts quite a bit when you smash your knuckles into the wood or a metal swivel. unfortunatly i had to learn that the hard way. One last thing its easier if you use bigger gloves. i use my 16 oz then switch to the small MMA gloves its a world of difference which makes eltorohmp's video even more impressive.

With his technique, balance and weightshifting, I imagine he hits like a stick of dynamite. Better a bag than your ribs.
