Just saw The Fighter with Mark Wahlberg and Christian Bale. It's based on the life of "Irish" Micky Ward from Lowell, MA, a "stepping stone" boxer managed by his mother and trained by his addict half-brother, Dickie Eklund, whose claim to fame was that he once knocked down Sugar Ray Leonard.
The movie is about a man torn between his disfunctional family and his desire to become a successful fighter. I really think Christain Bale's performance as Dickie stole the show. He's an addict who clings to his past boxing glory and tries to relive his glory days through his younger brother.
There are only two speed bagging scenes, neither of them are memorable, but they are there.
Also, Micky enters the ring to Whitesnake's "Here I Go Again." I was waiting to see Tichy on drums, but no such luck.
The movie isn't just for boxing fans. My wife went to see it as really liked it. If you're looking to spend 2-hours watching a movie, this is the one.
I give it 5 bags.
