BONZO Tribute: The Groove Remains the Same

    From MODERN DRUMMER online.

Zeptember 25th, 2010 marks the 30th anniversary of the passing of Led Zeppelin drummer John Bonham. Not only was John Bonham the drummer for Led Zeppelin, one of the biggest rock bands in the world, he was and still is the undisputed king of rock-n-roll drumming. His huge groove, open tuning, rabbit-quick bass drum foot and inventive fills have influenced more drummers than any other.

There will be a raffle of a Paiste crash cymbal signed by all drummers.

    The drummers paying tribute include:

    Steven Adler (Guns 'N Roses)
    Vinnie Appice (Heaven and Hell)
Carmine Appice (Vanilla Fudge/Rod Stewart via video performance)
Kenny Aronoff (John Cougar, John Fogerty, studio great)
    Frankie Banali (Quiet Riot)
    Jason Bonham (Led Zeppelin)
    Fred Coury (Cinderella)
    Jimmy D'Anda (Bulletboys)
    James Kottak (Scorpions)
    Khurt Maier (Salty Dog)
    Chris Slade (The Firm, AC/DC)
Chad Smith (Red Hot Chili Peppers/Chickenfoot),
Brian Tichy (Whitesnake, Foreigner, Billy Idol, Ozzy)
Joe Travers (Zappa Plays Zappa, Duran Duran)
    Simon Wright (AC/DC - DIO)

    House Band Members:
    Brent Woods; guitar
    Michael 'Denim' Devin; bass
    Keith St. John; vocals
    Stephen LeBlanc; keys
    Brian Tichy; guitar

Tickets on sale Thursday. Aug. 26th, 2010 at The Key Club website. www.keyclub.com

Show was EPIC. 18 Awesome drummers. Each played a favorite Zeppelin tune.

              Jimmy D'anda

check out "Bonzo Tribute" videos, as more are to come. I'm still out in
CA so can't write much. BT created R&R history and this concert will be included in all future mentions of Zeppelin tributes and books. First time Bonham's Family endorsed and personally came to the event. His Son John Bonham played also. GREAT JOB, BT. He planned this all and pulled it of beautifully.

Congrats to Brian for pulling it all together, R&R history indeed. Was there any sort of official recording or video that will be sold?

That is kind of a two part question. Suffice it to say that YES there was lots of video and audio recording going on. The packaging and selling of the musician performances and music is not mine to say, however I will conjecture that if BT can work out a way through the legal maze - the answer is yes. "When" is just anybody's guess. For the moment, enjoy the many youtube clips. I'm sure BT will let forum members know when any "official" media is released.

Ahhh! to bad we didn't get to meet. I was upstairs just over the left edge of the stage. Look in this video upper left edge at about :14-15 sec. you see a few light flashes and me in a RED shirt hanging by the top rail. Wish we could have met to get a pic with BT and a few of the other drummers.

I probably have you in a picture down in the crowd somewhere. I've got a bunch more to import but here are a few if you were close to stage. I lightened them a bit.
