Patent discovery - Alan Kahn wind-up action figure

    US Patent 742504

Being as this patent was issued in 1903, we now have a better handle on just how long Alan has been dedicated to the speed bag, and we also get a glimpse at the extent of his fame back in the early days. Alan, being a humble man, has often been reluctant to talk about his rise to stardom, and has never before acknowledged his line of action toys.

On a serious note, I wonder if any were made, and if so, are any still around???

Yes, some were. Some of you may have seen the Chein Popeye floor puncher tin toys. The same manufacturer also made this version , but apparently a lot fewer than the latter. I've seen only one of the platform bag version, but a number of the floor punchers.

HA! in my youth, big guns, in my youth.

Nice one, Paranday. I should be so lucky to have an action figure, but if I did - it would look a lot like that!

Time for a confession, the multi-talented MsDeville drew your likeness and Photoshopped it onto that patent drawing.

Dutchman gave a brand name, based on that, here's one that turned up in a search:

Popeye maybe needs some bag lessons...

Paranday asked if I could "doctor up" the original vintage sketch, so I obliged. And, I must say, it was a VAST IMPROVEMENT over the original head! Your profile is much more striking, Alan.

Oh, and now it's my turn to state my feminine observations of this "action figure" sketch. After all, you guys had so much to say about the Budweiser Girl's uh, er, skills... http://www.speedbagforum.com/forums/...ead.php?t=3211

I must say, this "action figure" has quite a figure alright. That backside... hmmmm. And, check out those thighs of steel – LITERALLY – probably 100% steel!

Now that's a bagger's toy if I ever seed one...

I can just hear him sing:

"now I'll punch the baggage when I eat some cabbage, I'm Popeye the sailor man".

                    (no disrespect to spinach fans)

A harken back to my speedo days, no doubt!

Good one, Dee and Paranday. I won't need my metamucil this week.

Is that photoshopped ?? Or is that the original image ... that's just too bizarre. I knew Alan was old , but hell, I didn't know he was that old
