    New to the speed bag

Hey all, im a newbie! Great forum you guys have here.

I have already ordered my copy of the speed bag bible, it with take 14-21 days to arrive( ) im in africa ordered it via kalahari.net, otherwise the books never arrive

ive been banging on the SB for 3 days now and it really is great fun.

How long do you guys train on the speed bag per day? 30 minutes? 1 hour? or do you SB till your arms cannot anymore? is it advisable to train on the SB every day?

I really want to become proficent in the SB is there a Training Schedule i can use in the interim.

Wise choice! You won't regret it.

It will probably take you a while to build shoulder endurance, once you do you can pretty much punch as long as you care to keep your arms up. Speed bagging isn't like weight lifting or running where you can get into an "over trained" state - at least not in my opinion. Therefore it is practical to bag every day.

HOWEVER - overuse is always an issue with anything done intensively. The best bet might be to start with 15-20 minutes per day and build up from there.

If you feel like taking a day off or shoulders or hands are sore, take a day off! Bagging is like riding a bike. I've taken a 6 month break and within a few days I get back to full speed.

    Hope that helps

      Welcome to the forum!

You've come to the best place to point you in the right direction for everything to do with the speedbag.

Most of us have probably got a 'library' of youtube clips to help us learn techniques and combos - also check out Alan Kahn's multimedia page on his website where he demonstrates individual techniques one by one.

I'm finding that really useful especially as I recently got the SBB book too.

As far as practice goes - whatever you like! It's worth taking your time though so you don't end up practising bad habits, above all, HAVE FUN!

By the way, I'm no expert, just learning myself!

      Good luck!
